32 OUR LIFE • July-August 2024 Початок с. 10 допомагало власне нетипове становище, усвідом - лення себе як європейки – представниці західної культури, пов’язаної з позицією сили і влади, й вод- ночас як українки – представниці підпорядкованої і пригнічуваної спільноти. Переїзд Софії Яблонської зі Львова до Парижа, мандрівка до Мароко й тривале перебування в Ки - таї стали послідовними кроками у пошуку намаре- них у дитинстві «райських островів», заради яких вона здійснила навколосвітню подорож. Вона від - відала Порт-Саїд, Джибуті, Коломбо, Сайґон (тепер Хошимін), Хюе, Ханой (де мешкала протягом трьох років), Лаос, Пномпень, Анґкор, Банґкок, острів Пе - нанґ, Синґапур, острів Ява, Перт, Сидней, Окленд, озеро Вайкаремоана, Веллінґтон, острів Раротонґа, однак справжньою метою цієї мандрівки став таї - тянський острів Бора-Бора, на якому вона прожила декілька місяців, втілюючи власну дитячу мрію. Її подорож стала також історією дорослішання, аж до остаточного визнання: В моїх мандрівках, з краю в край, я ніде не зустріла раю, якого сподівалася. Зате іноді хоч здалека схопила кілька відблисків земного щастя, яке тепер має для мене більшу вартість, ніж уявлені раї. Перша світова війна зробила Софію Яблонську втікачкою, Друга світова перетворила її на вигнанни - цю, без жодної надії повернутися до рідного краю. Але за будь-яких життєвих обставин вона обирала свій шлях і будувала свій дім, зберігаючи три важли - ві для неї речі: подаровану під час відвідин Галичини гуцульську ляльку, Шевченків «Кобзар» і невелику дерев’яну миску з написом « Чим хата багата – тим рада » До свого дитинства Яблонська ще повернеть- ся у книжці спогадів, над якою працюватиме до ос- танніх років життя. Це буде книжка про батьківство і спадкоємство, про відданість власному покликанню й відповідальність перед іншими, про недоскона- лість людської природи і силу любові, про відвагу і страх, прийняття і розуміння. «Жінка з кінокаме - рою». вглядатиметься в образ самої себе, опиняю- чись водночас як героїня і як авторка по обидва боки об’єктива, і вкотре доводитиме власним прикладом, що пізнання власного «я» приходить через пізнання й розуміння близьких і далеких інших. Continued from page 19 Among the many important initiatives introduced by the UNWLA to support Ukraine and her people is Return Ukraine’s Children, which reminds everyone that tens of thousands – possibly hundreds of thou - sands – of children have been abducted by russia dur - ing its invasion of Ukraine. UNWLA members and their communities held ser - vices on June 1, International Children’s Day, to edu- cate political officials, the press, social media, and our communities regarding the impact of the war, which has physically and psychologically traumatized count - less children. Numerous children have been forcibly taken from orphanages and families to russia, where their names and birthdates have been changed. Fam- ilies have been torn apart. Children have been “lost.” It is imperative that we continue sharing informa- tion about the children abducted from Ukraine and request continued support in bringing them back to their families. Branch 124 in St. Petersburg, FL, took part in the UNWLA initiative Children Praying for Children on Sunday, June 2, at the Epiphany of Our Lord Ukrain - ian Catholic Church. Branch member Snizhana Ko- robchenko organized the children from the Ukrainian school and the community to participate in this spe- cial prayer initiative. Father Bohdan Barytsky served the Holy Liturgy, which was followed by a short yet touching program. Branch president Irene Badiak read an introduction to the program in English, speaking about the thousands of children taken from Ukraine. She asked for support and prayers. In Ukrainian, Snizhana Korobchenko presented facts about the devastating effects the war has on children. The children then prayed the “Our Father” and “Hail Mary” for the safety and return of the children to their homes in Ukraine. Софія Яблонська
