НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Липень-Серпень 2024 3 Наталя Павленко Natalie Pawlenko In preparing for the XXXIII UNWLA Convention in September, I took the time to take an in- depth look back at what we have accomplished since the last Convention in 2021. What plans and dreams there may have been for the next three years. What steps we could take to strengthen the organization and grow at the same time. Little did we realize then that we would all face a challenge the likes of which had not been seen for generations. And that, just like the Soyuzianky who lived through World War II — survivors and those who aided the survivors — we would have no roadmap to navigate the challenges of a full-scale, genocidal war being waged against our homeland, Ukraine. How did we all manage? We managed ... to - gether. Unlike many exclusively Ukraine-focused organizations here in the U.S., the UNWLA is made up of hundreds of women in branch - es and individual members spread across the country. Your efforts, combined with organ - ization-wide initiatives on the national level, create a tidal wave of support for Ukraine and Ukrainians. I could see this in most of the 56 branches that I visited in 2023–2024. In some parts of the country the enthusiasm, creativity, and un - derstanding of the power of community are so great that I wish we could distill this, save it in a bottle, and share it with each and every one of you. These visits lifted me up even when the news from Ukraine threatened to drag me down. The conversations I have with Soyu- zianky who are on fire with a passion to enhance the lives of others, who understand the power of the UNWLA, renew me each time they occur. I am looking forward to being re-energized when we meet in person at the Convention next month. This will be our time together: to laugh, to cry, to honor, and to commemo - rate. This will also be our time to think about our future and prepare for another milestone event that no other generation of Soyuzianky will have experienced — in fact, an event that very few Ukrainian diaspora organizations will ever experience: the 100th anniversary of our founding. Now that will be something to cele - brate! Коли я готувалася до XXXIII Конвенції СУА, що відбудеться у вересні, то знайшла мож - ливість детально проаналізувати наші досяг - нення з часу проведення останньої Конвен - ції у 2021 р. Які наші плани та мрії були на наступні три роки? Які кроки ми могли б зро - бити, щоб зміцнити організацію та водночас зростати? Ми не усвідомлювали, що всі зіткнемося з викликом, подібного до якого не бачили поколіннями. І що так само як союзянки, які пережили Другу світову війну — ті, хто ви - жив, і ті, хто допомагав тим, хто вижив — ми не мали дорожньої карти, щоб орієнтувати - ся у викликах повномасштабної, геноцидної війни, що нині йде проти нашої Батьківщини України. Як ми всі справилися? Ми справилися... разом. На відміну від багатьох суто українських організацій у США, до складу СУА входять сотні жінок з відділів і вільні членкині, розки - дані по всій країні. Ваші зусилля у поєднанні з загально організаційними ініціятивами на національному рівні створюють припливну хвилю підтримки України та українців. Я бачила це в більшості з 56 відділів, які відвідала у 2023/24 рр. А в деяких з них ен - тузіазм, креативність і розуміння сили гро - мади настільки великі, що мені хотілося б виокремити їх, зберегти їх, щоб поділитися з кожною з вас. Ці візити надихали мене на - віть тоді, коли через новини з України хотіло - ся опустити руки. Розмови, що я веду з тими союзянками, які горять пристрастю покра - щувати життя інших, які розуміють силу СУА, додають мені наснаги кожного разу, коли вони відбуваються. Я з нетерпінням очікую на відновлення енергії, коли ми зустрінемося особисто на Конвенції наступного місяця. Це буде наш час, аби разом усміхатися, плакати, вшано - вувати та відзначати. Це також буде час по - думати про наше майбутнє та підготуватися до ще однієї знакової події, яку не мало жод - не інше покоління союзянок; події, яку дуже незначна кількість організацій української діяспори коли-небудь переживатимуть: 100-річчя від дня заснування.
