“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИПЕНЬ - СЕРПЕНЬ 2020 WWW. UNWLA.ORG 9 The National C ouncil of Non - profits’ website states that: “First and foremost, we all need to keep open lines of communications with our boards, employ- ees, volunteers, donors, and the people we serve.” And this is exactly the path the UNWLA has at- tempted t o follow — open lines of com munication. The Executive Committee, National Board, Re- gional Council Presidents and Standing Commit- tee Chairs have held regular meetings via WebEx. We’ve instituted “Staying Connected with You,” a biweekly short newsletter which gi ves news and r e- minds us of our ongoing projects and is sent out as an email blast reaching out to all members. A ques- tionnaire entitled “UNWLA life during & after Covid - 19” is being prepared to let us learn from our branches and regional councils which met hods they’ve u sed to keep in touch with their member- ship and what their plans are for the near future. All of our new projects and reports/reactions to current projects are posted on our Facebook page and on our Website. And, equally important, the UNWLA Exec- utive is l ooking to the future with optimism. We are celebrating the UNWLA’s 95 th anniversary this year and are planning a virtual recognition of this by the end of the year. We are anxiously awaiting the completion of the English - language versio n of the book about the UNWLA’s history. We are also planning for our XXXII Convention in 2021! Our leadership is focusing on providing as much nor- mality as possible in the present, keeping faith and optimism for the long term after this crisis has been qu elled. However, dur ing these difficult times here at home in the United States, the citizens of West- ern Ukraine are facing their own overwhelming challenges! Please read below . APPEAL TO AID FLOOD VICTIMS IN UKRAINE !! As you have probably read, Ukraine is fighting a national disaster. The Ivano - Frankivsk and Cherniv- tsi regions and much of Western Ukraine have been severely flooded. Thousands of homes have been lost, roads destroyed, and bridges damaged. This is an extremely difficult time for Ukraine, given that the W ar in the East continues and there is a continuing pandemic. Thousands of residents are in dire need of humanitarian aid. As always, the UNWLA is one of the foremost organizations responding to this disaster and is calling upon all its branches, individual m embers, and all members of the Ukrainian diaspora to do- nate generously to aid our sisters and brothers in Ukraine in this time of great need. No do nation is too small! Together we can change someone's life by helping them to buy food and basic necessities! This appeal will be ongoing since the effect of the flood will take months to address even though the heaviest rainfall took place from June 22 to June 23. Donations may be made on UNWLA’s Facebook page. Should you wish to make a donation via check, pleas e send checks made out to “UNWLA” and note on the Memo line: Flood 2020. Every dollar you donate will be targeted for this emergency.
