Much of this growth may be attributed to the vitality and enthusiasm of our members and the exciting projects we work on. These projects have included ex- hibits and seminars on Ukrainian Folk Arts designed for English-speaking and Ukrainian audiences. Aspects of this work were the subject of the Branch 88 election meeting held on February 13, 2016, at the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center (UECC). Our honored guest was Philadelphia Regional Council President Halyna Henhalo, and our focus included a review of branch activities from November 10, 2013 to February 13, 2016. Branch President Ulana Prociuk opened the meeting with a prayer, and a presidium was elected to conduct the meeting. Halyna Keller was selected to serve as chair, and Maria Zmurkewycz agreed to serve as meeting secretary. The minutes from the previous meeting, prepared by Tetjana Artymyshyn-Danyliw, were approved. After the formalities, Branch 88 President Ulana Prociuk presented an overview of the work of Branch 88 for the past 28 months. She reported that throughout the years, Branch 88 has been focusing much attention on cultural community outreach projects. We are pleased to share information about two of these projects with Our Life readers. A notable exhibit of the works of Vasyl Avramenko entitled “A Legacy of Ukrainian Dance” was co-sponsored with the Ukrainian Heritage Studies Center (UHSC) of Manor College under the creative direction of curator Chrystyna Prokopovych, who is also the Cultural Chair of Branch 88. This well at- tended special exhibit was held on March 21 and 22, 2014, at the UECC. The event began with a showing of the film “Natalka Poltavka,” which was followed by seminars on Ukrainian Folk Arts conducted by Dr. Paula Holoviak and Ms. Iryna Balan. The Kazka Ukrainian Folk Ensemble, which hails from Pennsylva- nia’s Schuylkill County and was co-founded years ago by Dr. Holoviak, gave a spirited and entertaining performance with choreography created by the late Mr. Avramenko. From November 10 to December 31, 2015, Branch 88, in conjunction with Manor’s UHSC and the Manorly Bead Club, presented a specially decorated themed Christmas tree in a Ukrainian inspired room at the Pearl Buck House in Perkasie, Pa., during the museum’s annual “Festival of Trees” event. Ms. Prokopovych has been the creative force behind these exhibits, and Branch 88’s room displaying Ukrainian traditions, symbols, motifs, and the “Ukrainian Tree,” has won first place for three consecutive years for inspirational themes and execution. This past December, Branch 88 members also prepared a brochure and tableau depicting Ukrainian Christmas traditions for the Treasury of Faith Museum con- ducted by the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy (UCAP) in Philadelphia and attended by many visitors. Following Ms. Prociuk’s comments, President of the Philadelphia Regional Council Halyna Hen- halo praised branch members for their outstanding accomplishments. She also gave special mention and attention to two very successful events hosted by the Philadelphia Regional Council during the past two years: an exhibit of Petro Kapshutschenko’s sculptures on October 31, 2014, and the Oksana Karavanska Vyshyvanka Fashion Show on October 25, 2015. All proceeds from the fashion show were designated for humanitarian aid in Ukraine, specifically for the benefit of widows and orphans of soldiers killed while fighting Russian invaders and the so-called “separatists” during the recent ongoing crisis in Eastern Ukraine. Several members of Branch 88 worked on committees associated with these endeavors.
