“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ГРУДЕНЬ 201 3 WWW. UNWLA.ORG 13 During the Annual Meeting of the UNWLA National Board , Nov. 1 - 3, 2013. ing the actual time of the Great Famine and throughout the years. (Please see my presentation on p. 15 .) On the evening of November 6th, a sp e- cial commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor was held at the Ukrainian Inst i- tute of America and featured guest speakers who reflected upon the Holodomor as well as a special tribute to the survivors of t he Holodomor. On Saturday, November 23rd, a requiem service ( panakhyda ) was concelebrated by the hierarchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox and Catholic churches and with the participation of the “Dumka” Choir of New York at St. Patrick’s C a- thedral. The 80th an niversary commemorations will culminate with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Holodomor Memorial in Washington, D.C., on December 4th. As you receive this issue, the Hol i- day Season will be approaching quickly... I will take this opportunity to extend my sincere greetings to you and w ish you the joy of family, the happiness of friends, and the wonder of the Christmas Season and, of course, a healthy and very pro s- perous New Year! How to Prepare for the UNWLA Convention The UNWLA Convention is a big and i m- portant event — not only for all Ukrainian women in America, but also for the Ukrainian diaspora. In recent meetings with the leaders of Ukrainian women's organizations of Ukraine, President M a- ria nna Zajac and I realized that our organization, the Ukrainian National Women’s League of Ame r- ica, is very important to them — especially our goals and aims. We want our united women’s voice to sound throughout the free world, and we want the world to underst and that our organization will never waive its responsibility not only to conti n- ue, but also to strengthen our commitment to the goals set forth by our Founders and apply them in the present - time situations. The success of the Convention depends not just o n the National Board; preparing for the Convention should be a consolidated effort of all members of the branches as well as members - at - large. Responsibilities of the Branches in prepa r- ing for the Convention: 1. Books (records) and reports must comply with current standards and be updated. 2. Annual reports to the Board must be accurately and completely filled out.
