The customary reading of committee reports was followed by a review of all the upco ming events and a group picture for the 2014 XXX UNWLA Convention Book, taken by Victor Lisnyczyj. After a short recess, during which members enjoyed coffee and pastries, they had the pleasure of we l- coming ou r speaker Orysia Zin ycz, UNWLA Liaison for Branches - at - Large and Branch 56 Treasurer. Orysia’s presentation focused on available medical coverage in 2014 for Medicare eligible seniors. Orysia holds a CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) certification for group insurance and pensions from the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania. She has extensive exper i- ence in this field. She trained HR personnel to administ er group insurance plans and acted as a liaison b e- tween insurance companies, employers and employees. It is this extensive experience that made her the perfect speaker to clarify the issues surrounding the 2014 insurance choices available to seniors. Orys ia began by giving a short synopsis of the history of the Social Security bill and the Med i- care program. She reviewed the coverage provided by the original Medicare parts A and B as well as Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Prescription Plan D, Medicare Co mplete a . k . a . Medicare Advantage. Orysia also spoke of the pros and cons of PPOs ( Preferred Provider Organizations) and HMOs (Hea lth Maintenance Organizations). She provided the attendees with a handout of her presentation. Members listened attentively as they began to decipher what steps to take in choosing the best insurance option for them. Questions followed the presentation. We hope that everyone took the time to study their health insurance options for 2014.
