Я вже не раз перед союзянками згадував, як з малого віку, найранішої юності , мої перші спомини громадянського життя є, як я був на рівні стола чи під столом, де відбувалася продаж печива Союзу Українок при якомусь літературному вечорі. Праця союзянок, їхня щедрість , для мене завжди була джерелом нат - хнення... Саме цей дух, саме це свідчення української жінки для нас є високим пріорітетом. Я переконаний, що ми вже давно виживаємо тому, що українська жінка є остоєю української родини, парафії, громади, освіти і різних секторів, без яких наше суспільство було би у дуже печальному п оложенні. Ґендерні студії є важливі не лише, щоб досліджувати питання жінки. Ми сьогодні маємо в Україні кризу чоловіка... Криза ґендерна, яка є ґлобальною, в Україні має свої особливо гострі аспекти, які потребують спокійного дослідження, що допроваджув атиме до цілющого дотику, до розуміння і співчуття, до супроводу і такої гармонії співпраці людей, яка є необхідна для здорового суспільства. Ми надзвичайно раді, що СУА обрав УКУ, щоб започаткувати програму жіночих/ґендерних студій, адже це є теми, які т оркають найглибших питань нашого буття." _________________________________ Father Borys Gudziak, Rector of the UCU, on the New UNWLA Initiative : “ The support of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America is very valuable to us. I have often mentioned to Soyuzianky that my first memories of community work are associated with this organ i- zation. At a very young age — I was just a lad, hardly able to see over a tabletop — I witnessed their work at bake sales during literary evenings. The work of the se women, their generosity, was always a source of inspiration to me. It is this very spirit, this witness of the Ukrainian woman that is a high priority to us at the Ukrainian Catholic University. I am convinced that we have survived because the Ukra inian woman is the voice of the Ukrainian fam i- ly, the parish, and the community. She is the voice in education and in various other sectors. Without the Ukrainian woman, our society would be in a very sorry state. Gender studies are important not only a s research of women’s issues; today in Ukraine, we find ou r- selves in a critical situation with men... The gender crisis, which is global, has its own serious character in Ukraine. This problem needs to be studied and researched. If we are to heal society, we must find a healthy approach that will enable understanding and compassion and will result in harmony and c o- operation among people. We are extremely happy that the UNWLA chose the Ukrainian Catholic University to be the partner and the beneficiary of its women’s/gender studies program, as these themes touch upon the deepest questions of our existence."
