UNWLA BRANCH 30 SETS AGENDA FOR THE COMING YEAR by Olia Rudyk Branch 30 members and guests at wine tasting event UNWLA Branch 30 of Yonkers, New York, commenced its annual fund raising activities for 2007-2008 with a meeting held at Olia Rudyk’s home on September 27, 2007. After an enjoyable and restful summer, members arrived at the meeting with renewed energy and enthusiasm. As in pre vious years, we reviewed the upcoming Fall/Winter calendar and decided to continue our now tradi tional sale of coffee and baked goods once a month after each Mass at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers. In addition, our popular Christ mas Bazaar will be held in December, and we are especially looking forward to going Christmas caroling, a branch activity revived just three years ago. This has not only become a successful fund raising activity, but something we all enjoy doing. Another project on the agenda is a clothing drive for orphanages and the sickly in Ukraine. At the meeting, Branch 30 members also discussed plans for attracting new members by hosting a few interesting and entertaining social events. One such event, a wine tasting evening, was held in May 2007 at the home of Marika Maka renko. Marika, a wonderful hostess, and her hus band Sviatoslaw, prepared tasty hors d’oeuvres, cheese, dips, and desserts to go along with the wines sampled that evening. Branch 30’s President Iryna Hoshovkyj, Vice President Olia Rudyk, and Sec retary Nadia Liteplo prepared and mailed out beautiful invitations to women in the Yonkers area. The response was wonderful, both from current Branch members and from several prospective members who had the opportunity to learn about the UNWLA and become acquainted with the organi zation’s work since its inception. A total of 15 women enjoyed the many fine wines selected for the event by Adrianna Rudyk- Odomirok, Sales & Marketing Executive with Eber Brothers, a wine and liquor distributor in New York. Ms. Odomirok expertly chose six white and six red wines, ranging from very dry to sweet. Included in this selection was a liqueur and a champagne. The selection was also internationally diverse, coming from vineyards in California, Italy, Germany, Australia, South Africa, France, and Chile. Each had a distinct character and was pro duced from a different kind of grape. Guests learned the proper way of examining a wine for quality, fragrance, color, and taste. Adrianna Rudyk-Odomirok prepared an informative and detailed handout about each wine, which in cluded food pairing recommendations. As an added surprise, we were honored by a guest appearance of Father Kadylo of St. Michael’s Church. Although overwhelmed by all the “spirited” women, Father Kadylo enjoyed the excellent wine and food served Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році .
