Branch 58, Detroit Regional Council, Marks 60th Anniversary Mourns Loss of Beloved Members, and Prepares for 2008 UNWLA Convention Founding Members of Branch 58. Standing, fourth from left, Helen Sedorak (Branch 58 Historian). Seated, first and second from left, Nellie Sedorak Sosnowsky (unofficial Branch 58 calligrapher) and Ann Sedorak (Branch 58 Financial Secretary) UNWLA Branch 58, under the patronage of Olena Teliha, was established at a meeting held in St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan, in 1947. Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the branch continues to maintain strong connections with the church, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary of serving the Detroit community. Branch 58 has a long and successful history of volunteerism, and members have worked dili gently to preserve, nurture, and exhibit Ukrainian culture, folk art, music, and dance. O f the sixteen founding members, three survive and continue to participate in Branch 58 activities: Helen Sedorak, Nellie Sedorak Sosnowsky, and Ann Sedorak. Over the years, Branch 58 membership has experienced growth spurts, sadly punctuated by the illness and death of elderly members. In 2005, the branch lost Kathryn Snarsky, a lovely lady who joined Branch 58 when the branch she previously belonged to was disbanded as members passed way and or became too frail to continue their work. During 2007, Branch 58 lost two beloved long-time members: Frances Krcek and Joanna Kulchesky. Mrs. Krcek, who is survived by her husband Frank, three children, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren is remembered for her love of children, her abounding affection for her dogs and flowers, and her legendary talent for cooking. Mrs. Kulchesky (nee Draginda), an administrative nurse by profession, also served a term as Branch 58’s president. As director of Echqes of Ukraine Dance Ensemble, she trained hundreds of young Ukrainian dancers from Metropolitan Detroit and Windsor, Canada. As a tribute to their mentor, many of her former students came to Mrs. Kulchesky’s funeral dressed in Ukrainian embroidered blouses and red dancing boots. Mrs. Kulchesky was also co-chair of Veselka, Inc., a project initiated in 1998 to establish an extended care facility for the disabled, bedrid den, and dying members of the Ukrainian com munity. The project was cosponsored by Branch 58 and the Ukrainian Nurses Association of Michigan and continues to provide a valuable service to the community to this day. Joanna was featured in the “Our Young Talent” section of the April 1964 issue of Our Life. Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році .
