OUR LIFE Monthly, published by Ukrainian National Women’s League of America Vol. LXIII JANUARY 2007 Editor: TAMARA STADNYCHENKO From the Desk of the President Ambassador Oleh Shamshur, UNWLA President Iryna Kurowyckyj, and Mrs. Alla Leshko during Ukrainian Museum’s 30th anniversary luncheon In this first issue of Our Life magazine for 2007,1 would like to share with readers some news about a wonderful event that occurred at the end of November 2006: The Ukrainian Museum in New York cele brated its 30th anniversary. The event, held at the Essex House, was an elegant affair attended by many supporters of the Museum. Among the guests were representatives of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, which founded the Ukrainian Museum many decades ago. In his opening remarks, Master of Ceremonies, Orest Temnyckyj, greeted those attending, spoke of the importance of the Ukrainian Museum as a cultural institution, and also recognized the UNWLA for its significant contributions to the history of the Museum. His remarks about our organization are worth citing: “Of course, the Museum does a great job in promoting Ukrainian culture on the international arena in the city of New York. This Museum - was the idea of our soyuzanky, our wives, our mothers. For this I bow to you. I would like all the UNWLA members present here today to stand so we can acknowledge your presence. Soyuzanky worked very hard and still do for our museum. You are wonderful women, you are an example worth following; you are guardians of our culture. Thank you! God give you health!” It was wonderful to hear such words of appreciation from a young man, whose expressions of admiration for our work were echoed by other individuals affiliated with the Ukrainian Museum, by representatives of the government of Ukraine, and by other distinguished guests and speakers. For our membership, which has worked so diligently to contribute to the success of the museum, these accolades were a heartwarming tribute for a job well done. The President of the Museum Board, Olga Hnateyko, also expressed her gratitude to the UNWLA for founding the Museum and supporting it financially. She also thanked UNWLA members for donating time to
