Christmas Around the World 2004 This year's Ukrainian tree decorating team (left to right): Dr. Mark Demus, Chrsitine Dziuk (Correspondence Chair), Irene Demus (Cultural-Educational Chair), Irene Stasula (Branch co-Chairj, Marta Charysh, Dana Pylypczak, Katrusia Saldan, and Lida Marushka (Branch co-Chair). Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry is currently hosting its Christmas Around the World ex hibit. Open to the public, the exhibit includes a tradi tional Ukrainian Christmas tree decorated by UNWLA Branch 85. Begun years ago by Mrs. Lubomyra Sheremeta (president of UNWLA Branch 22), the tra dition was passed to Branch 85 in the year 2000. Some members of Branch 85 remember decorating the tree with Mrs. Sheremeta as youngsters, over thirty years ago. The tree currently on exhibit combines tradi tional and contemporary ornaments with stylized mo tifs that are reminiscent of Ukrainian embroidery from various regions of Ukraine. Spider webs of glitter, symbolizing luck and good fortune, are scattered throughout the branches. Mrs. Irene Demus, who coordinates the Ukrainian tree exhibit each year, initiated the project and was ably assisted by Christine Dziuk, Adya Liber, and Natalka Mycyk. Ms. Dziuk is coordinator of the Ukrainian performance program. This year, the Bla- hovist Choir and the Hromovytsia Dance Ensemble will perform on center stage at the museum on Sunday, December 12. The performances are sponsored by Sel freliance Ukrainian Credit Union and The Heritage Foundation.
