best. These individuals bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm and add a dynamism to the organization. In our community one often hears — “one must plan and work with youth in mind” — unfortunately often our leaders retain their positions for too long. I don’t want to be caught in this situation. That is why I insist that a younger individual be chosen. However, those who have the quali fications and interest often live far outside New York and have to con tend with career and family respon sibilities. That is the reason I haven’t left my position. The role of the Board of Trustees is primarily one of overseeing the work of the Museum’s Administra tion. The Board proposes ideas for future programs and seeks the sup port of the community. With an Administration and Staff of the calabre of Maria Shust (Direc tor), Daria Bajko (Administrative Di rector), Chrystyna Pevny (Archivist and Gift Shop Manager), Lydia Haj- duczok (Public Relations and Fund raising), Lubow Wolynetz (Director of Educational Programs and Catal oguer in charge of the Ethnographic Collection) and Rosalia Fenchynsky (Staff Assistant) The Ukrainian Mu seum will continue its work with the same quality and enthusiasm. On the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of The Ukrainian Museum, we wish to express our pride in the accomplishments and successes of this grand institutions. For m any years our organization nurtured the idea of a museum where the m ultifaceted nature of Ukrainian cultural and historical heritage could be preserved and displayed to the world. D eterm ination is one of U N W L A ’s strongest characteristics and we never wavered from our purpose. It was an uphill, difficult climb. When the Museum opened and became a self-governing entity, we rejoiced — for our selves and our communities. We believed we had created something perm anent which will bear witness to our long and proud history as a people. A fter a decade of activity, The Ukrainian Museum is an evident confirmation, to the validity of our original purpose. Its excellent exhibitions, scholarly catalogues and educational p ro grams have becom e an integral p art of the Ukrainian com m unity and in the cultural fabric of New York City. We are confident the second decade will see the realization of another dream — the build ing of a new museum facility — an elegant showcase for the treasures of our heritage. In celebration of this milestone the UNWLA extends its best wishes to The Ukrainian Museum for continued success, growth and prosperity. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * F ro m th e V is ito rs ’ B o o k a t th e M u s e u m “Delighted to know that the museum is here in New York City and to be introduced to a new and rich culture. This small museum is a very integral part of the fabric of the community, also its strength. This positive force has unlimited possibilities. Good luck!” “M y father is from Ukraine. I found it most inter esting to view artifacts and costumes which give me an indication of the culture my father came from. I am pleased to see such a museum in this city, testimony to human tradition amid the beauty of the past. ” “This is a beautiful collection of authentic cos tumes and textiles — its really a pleasure to see. The larger N ew York museums should learn a les son from this display!" 30 ’’НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЖОВТЕНЬ 1986 Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році .
