In addition to the catalogs the Shop carries a varied selection of books. Beautiful art books about the crea tivity of Victor Cymbal, painter and graphic artist, about Hnizdowsky’s woodcuts, or the painting of Radysh, would be a welcome addition to any library. Ukrainian cookbooks are also available; Other expressions of Ukrainian art, contemporary and traditional may be purchased at the Shop: wood cuts by such artists as Hnizdowsky, and Bozemsky, oil and water color paintings, as well as etchings by Nicho las Bervinchak and works by other artists. Ceramic pot tery in traditional Ukrainian styles is also sold as well as beautifully designed embroidered pillows, pin-cushions, and book marks plus attractive jewelry. The shop also carries Christmas greeting cards and cards for other occasions, tote bags with the Museum’s logo and plexi glass place mats with a screen printed design from a tablecloth. Delightful teddy bears in Hutzul vests and hats await adoption at the Museum Shop. "DIDUCH” — a Ukrainian Chrismas tradition, is available at the Shop. FRIENDLY EXCHANGE ”A Ukrainian Christmas” is the name of a feature article in the 1984 winter issue of FRIENDLY EXCHANGE, a quarterly magazine published in St. Paul, Minnesotta for Farmers Insurance Group of Companies. Writer Janice Kelley, describes Ukrainian Christmas traditions en compassing the complete winter holiday cycle which begins with St. Nicholas Day, through Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and ending with Yordan (Baptism of Christ). Ms. Kelley compiled material for this article by interviewing several Ukrainians, among them Lubow Wolynetz, Director of Education at the Ukrainian Museum. The five page story is supplemented with pho tographs as well as recepies of several traditional Ukrain ian Christmas breads such as the kolach, medivnyk and makivnyk. JOY TO BEHOLD For the month of December the Museum has scheduled its annual Christmas Tree Ornament Workshop. Child ren as well as adults will enjoy the opportunity to create a variety of ornaments made of multicolored beads, foil, paper, wire, nut shells, egg shells, colored ribbons and straw. This popular workshop allows participants to fashion angels, stars, mobiles, clowns and animals which they use to decorate their own Christmas trees at home. A VERTEP will be on display at the workshop stu dio. An adaptation of a 17th century model, this is a larger version of a traveling puppet theater that was car- ied from town to town in Ukraine at Christmas, perform ing the drama of Nativity. A Christmas tree, decorated with traditonal hand-made ornaments, will also grace the studio. WELCOME The Ukrainian Museum is a great place to visit, holiday time or any time.
