THE UKRAINIAN MUSEUM: A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE So many wonderful things.... Traditional items at the Shop are cuddly, huggable teddy bears dressed in Hutzul vests and hats. The bears are white or brown and come in sizes from 3 to 18 inches. The beautifully embroidered costumes for the loveable teddies are made by members of UNWLA. The bears are so endearing they are quickly adopted, for a price, that is. Sleighbells ring, are you listening?... Sleighbells, jingle bells, recorded bells remind us that Christmas is just around the corner. The music and the visual rich spec trum of the holiday season invites one and all to a feast of the senses. New York’s sidewalk Santas are out in full force and the crowning jewel of our city’s Christmas spirit, the beautiful Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center invites everyone from far and near to come and share the joy. Downtown, at The Ukrainian Museum, there is a lot of activity in preparation for the holidays. Craft work shops are scheduled, displays are set up and an excit ing selection of gift items has arrived at the Museum Shop. THE MUSEUM SHOP One of the pleasures and treasures of The Ukrainian Museum is its little Shop, a veritable chest of goodies to browse through and buy. Run efficiently by Chrystyna Pevny, it is the perfect place to shop for holiday gift giving. With Christmas upon us, the Shop is especially delightful with holiday decor. Nestled in the corner of the Museum it beacons with promises of elegant, thoughtful and charming gifts. For children as well as adults, the Shop offers items that will please the recip ient with the quality and the buyer with the price. Toys galore at the Museum Shop. A charming corner with works of art, books and Christmas decorations at the Shop. Atop the counter in the Shop is a wooden tree-type stand laddened with Christmas tree decorations. Color ful, dainty and clever in design and execution, the deco rations made of straw, egg shells, paper and foil, are a wonderful addition to any collection. They are very rea sonably priced. A DIDUCH, is an important part of the Ukrainian Christmas tradition. The Shop offers these golden stalks of wheat and a wooden spoon, attractively tied with a red ribbon. On par with every exhibition the Ukrainian Museum has issued a catalog with detailed descriptions and pho tos. These catalogs are excellent publications which stand on their own merits as sources of reference on the subjects they deal with. The available catalogs are: Lost Architecture of Kiev, To Preserve a Heritage, Ukrainian Embroidery Craft, Ukrainian Folk Art, Ukrainian Kilims, and Rushnyky - Ukrainian Ritual Cloths.
