УКРАЇНСЬКА ЖІНКА У ДВОХ СВІТАХ NEWS FROM THE UKRAINIAN WOMEN’S CONFERENCE UKRAINIAN WOMAN IN TWO WORLDS The long-awaited Ukrainian Women’s Conference is upon us. Several hundred women and many men are expected to attend the weekend event at Soyuzivka on October 2 & 3, 1982. The pre-registered participants hail from all over the U. S., from California to Florida to Georgia. Women from Canada and Argentina have also registered. They are women of all ages, with a wide range of interests. One thing they share — a deep interest in integrating their Ukrainian heritage into their lives as women of America. The bilingual program offered at the Conference is intended to address the concerns of the Ukrainian woman living in two cultures. The structure of the Conference is designed to maximize participation by at tendees. Here is a listing of the panels/workshops and their moderators: 1) Ukrainian Identity and Traditions — Natalia Kormeliuk, Maryland 2) Ukrainian Schools and Youth Groups — Halyna Kutko, New Jersey 3) Intermarriage — Christine Melnyk, Connecticut 4) Ukrainian Language — Roma Dyhdalo, Michigan 5) Ukrainians in American Politics — Marta Kichorowska, Maryland 6. Ukrainians and the Media — Roman Sochan- Hadzewycz, New Jersey 7) The Working Woman — Ksenia Dragan, Connecticut 8) The Ukrainian Male — Petro Stawnychy, New Jersey 9) Women in C risis — M otria Kushnir, Pennsylvania 10) Women of Tomorrow — Lesia Slobodian, New Jersey 11) The Ukrainian Singles Scene — Marta Korduba, New Jersey Presenting a historical background to the discus sions taking place at the Conference will be historian Dr. Martha Bohachevsky-Chomiak of McLean, Virginia, who will address a plenary session of the Conference on the topic of the Ukrainian women’s movement in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. A concert by women performing artists set for Saturday night has been organized by Martha Andriuk of Connecticut. Also, time has been set aside for participants to meet and talk informally, and make social and professional contacts. The establishment of informal women’s networks is an important aspect of this conference. AUTHOR OF UKRAINIAN WOMEN’S HISTORY TO SPEAK AT OCT. 2 CONFERENCE The Organizing Committee of the Ukrainian Women’s Conference has invited Dr. Martha Boha- chevsky-Chomiak to provide a historical perspective to the im portant women’s and Ukrainian community issues raised at the “Ukrainian Woman in Two World’s” Conference. She will address a plenary ses sion on S aturday a fte rn oo n, October 2, 1982. Dr. Bohachevsky-Chomiak is the author of several books and numerous articles on modern East European history. Her most recent research has been oriented toward the history of the U krainian women’s movement in the nine teenth and twentieth centuries. Since 1976 her research has taken her on three extensive study Д-р M. Богачевська-Хомпк Dr. M. Bohachevsky Chomiak trips to Eastern Europe where she worked in the archives of Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Austria. For the past 14 years, Dr. Boha- chevsky-Chomiak has been on the faculty of Manhattanville College, north of New York City. For the past several years, she has commuted there from her home in McLean, Va., a suburb of Washington, D. C. where she lives with her family. Audiences who have heard her speak have marvelled at her com bination of deep scholarly insights and irrepressible humor and wit.
