ARTS COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE VISITS UKRAINIAN MUSEUM BOHDAN ANTONYCH NEW YORK, N. Y. — Ken Spritz, arts program analyst of the museum aid program with the New York State Council on the Arts, visited the Ukrai nian Museum Thurdsday, June 9, to evaluate the facility and recommennd financial support by the New York State Council on the Arts for the 1977-78 budget year. After viewing the permanent collec tion and touring the facility, he met with members of the museum staff, Maria Shust, and Natalia Chytra-Rybak and UNWLA representatives, Mrs. Iwanna Rozankovsky, president, and Mrs. Alexandra Riznyk, vice-president. During this meeeting, Mr. Spritz stated that the Ukrainian Museum is established on a very high professional level fulfilling museum requirements. He added that among the new museums that opened in New York City last year — and there have been a few, such as the Museum of Broadcasting, Staten Island Children’s Museum, Museum of Holo graphy and others — the Ukrainian Museum is among the first and best. He was also amazed by the number of visitors and the extensive press and media coverage the museum has received in its 9 months of operation. During the museum aide program’s July meeting, the Ukrainian Museum was awarded a grant of $6.000.00 to be used for the fall exhibit, entitled, " T ra d itio n a l D esig n in U k ra in ia n Textiles". The panel also recommended that the ’’special programs" department review the Ukrai nian Museum’s Christmas and Easter programs for further grants. This is scheduled for the October panel meeting. The museum has also received 9 mannequins from the New York Histo rical Society, of which most will be used in the upcoming exhibit. STORM The storm is coming. Gray alders huddle, subdue their fear. Gasping for breath the red sky begs for mercy. The wind shoots up like a pillar. Stampeding lightnings glare, forcing the poppies to squint and kneel in fear. The wind sobs like a clarinet. The fox, astronomer of night, howls as thunder tears the horsecloth sky to shreds. Beyond the storm the distances dig tunnels through the clouds. Like whetted swords, my words clash with lighning bolts. Admission is $1.00 for adults, 50Ф for senior citizens and children under 12. Special group visits at reduced rates can be arranged by calling (212) 228-0110 The public is invited not only to view and savor the exhibit, but also t6 take home copies or original versions of embroidery or woven articles on sale at the Museum Gift Shop. Motria Kushnir The above poem is taken from the new collection of verse by Bohdan Antonych "quare of Angels”, published by Ardls, 1977. Translations into the English language are by Mark Rudman and Paul Nemser with Bohdan Boychuk, with an introduction by Bohdan Rubchak. 26 НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ, ЖОВТЕНЬ 1977 Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році .
