T h at le tte r w as followed by tw o oth ers in th e fall, w hich in cluded an individual m em ber questionnaire. T he five branch surveys w hich w ere re tu rn ed w ere fo r th e m ost p a rt inform ative and helpful. B ranch 60 in Cleveland took som e tim e a t a m eeting to re spond to th e m em ber question naires, w hich I very m uch a p preciate. T he responses w ere m ost in teresting . How m uch m ore in tere stin g it would have been to h ear from 100 m em bers and not ju s t 22. The individual m em ber is th e v ital com ponent of an organization, and h er ideas and opinions are valuable in th e resolution of any problem . O ur E nglish speaking b ra n ch es have had valid com plaints and criticism s about th e ir sta tu s in th e UNW LA. A ction on such com plaints requ ires 100% co operation a t BOTH ends of th e organizational schem e. K now ing th a t m ost A m ericans dislike fill ing out form s and w ritin g let ters, I tried to m ake th e survey and questionnaire as easy to re spond to as w as possible. A nd still som e sh eets w ere ap p aren t ly h astily gone over in a very cursory m anner. W e expect ev ery P resid en t of a bran ch to know h er b ranch and its m em bers well — it should have been sim ple fo r any P resid en t to r e spond to all of th e questions on th e sh eet — y et th is w as not th e case. A ssum ing th a t B ranch 60 m em bers are typical A m erican Soyuzanky, we see th a t A m eri can wom en join th e U N W LA fo r th e sam e reasons as U krainian wom en . . . to m eet and be w ith wom en of th e sam e descent, to learn about and preserv e th e ir h eritage, to socialize. T hese a re th re e of th e m ost valid reasons fo r joining. T h eir com plaints about individual p ettin ess and bickering could ju s t as well ap ply to any organized group •— i t ’s a hum an failing.
