Y. has opened a library according to UNWLA Board di rectives. The L ibrary includes books by women authors and publications about U krainian rites and traditions. An exhibit of the library’s holdings is usual ly presented on the occasion of m eetings of the Regional Coun cil or L iterary Evenings. E X H IB IT A T T H E DE T R O IT H ISTO R IC A L M U SE U M The H istorical Museum of De tro it biennially presents an ex hibit of the Christm as customs of various nations. This year the UNWLA Regional Council pre sented a scene from a W ater- blessing w ith m annekins dressed in U krainian folk costumes set against a w intery background and sim ulated ice cross. The ex hibit was prepared by Mrs. Jo hanna Draginda-Kulchycky, Mr. Eugene Draginda, and Eugene Nabozhniar. Mrs. A nastasia Volker, UNWLA vice president, assisted w ith the exhibit. W ritten by Vera Rich, a young English poetess fluent in U krainian, Bielorussian, Ger man, French, Icelandic, and sev eral other languages, who has translated many of the works of Shevchenko, Lesya U krainka and Franko. She has also w rit ten several poems w ith U krain ian them es. One of these — Eli zabeth, The Wise King’s Daugh. ter — appeared in the October 1963 issue of OUR LIFE m aga zine. Her book explores the w rit ings in Scandinavian literature on Elizabeth, daughter of Y aro slav, who m arried Harald, half- brother of King Olaf of Norway. U k rain e-R u s and W estern E u rope in 1 0th -15th C entu ries. Published by the Association of Ukrainians in Great B ritain in 1964. W ritten by Professor N atalia Polonska-Wasylenko, a well-known authority on the his tory of W estern Europe. This scholarly work, w ith many references and footnotes, traces ancient U kraine’s rela tions w ith W estern Europe: in particular, the close dynastic links between the ruling houses of Kiev and the W estern E uro pean States.
