The book held by Maria Boyaniwsky is the first book con taining the association’s constitutions which were broad in scope. U K R A IN IA N W OM EN M ARK JU B IL E E Ukrainian women in Manitoba and across Canada are observing a double anniversary this year: the granting of suffrage to women by the Manitoba L egisla tive A ssem bly in 1916, and the founding of the fir st Ukrainian Women’s organization in W inni peg, shortly thereafter. The initial accomplishment of th is association was to make possible the printing and distri bution of thousands of special proclamations calling upon U k rainian women to exercise their newly-won righ t by m assive par ticipation in the subsequent pro vincial elections, thus m an ifest ing the m aturity of progressive forces in their adopted country. N EW UNW LA MEMBERS Our Branches have notified us about new members who joined them in 1966. We are delighted to greet them in our big U N WLA fam ily. Branch 2 of UN W LA in Ches ter, Pa. announced the following new m em bers: Mesdames Donna Huzwa, Ca therine Popek, Mary Rowlyk, Marieann Whalen. Branch 53 in Long Island City announced Mrs. Anna L yktey as new member. Branch 72 in N ew York City announced as new m em bers: Mesdames Stephanie Kawszan, Maria 0 . Kindzerski and Mary Sass. Glad to see all of you in the Ukrainian N ational W omen’s League. N E W U N W L A B R A N C H IN R O C H E ST E R , N . Y . On January 29, 1967, a new Branch was created in Roches ter, N . Y. It consists of 33 young women with Mrs. Luba Shm igel as President. The Branch received the number 46 and became the 8th member of the Regional Council. U K R A IN IA N D A N C E R A T R AD IO CITY B A L L E T Oksana W oynowska exhibited great aptitude for dancing while still a child. She received her musical education at the Musical Academy of Newark, and took ballet lessons w ith the noted Ukrainian ballerina Vadentyna P ereyaslavets. Later she studied at the School of American Bal let under the fam ed balletm aster Balanchine. A fter completion of her studies she danced w ith the N ew York City Ballet. The young ballerina has ap peared w ith the N ew Jersey and Philadelphia Lyric Opera, and has toured w ith Kazan’s inter pretative dance ensemble. Dur ing the past year she has danced w ith the Radio City Ballet. The Ukrainian public has had the pleasure of seeing her perform at the N ew York World Fair, at “Soyuzivka,” and the Literary A rt Club. O UR P R E S ID E N T IS P L A N N IN G A TOUR A s usual, our President is planning a tour of a number of our Branches in th e spring. This year the Chapters of the E astern and Northern sta tes will be v isit ed. The tour will start May 7, 1967 and end June 4. Our P res ident will m eet the Board and members of each Branch and will hold a special m eeting w ith the Regional Council in U tica, N. Y. In addition, Day Centers for chil dren, located at Branch 19 in Am sterdam , N. Y., Branch 25 in Paw tucket, R. I., Branch 47 in Rochester, N. Y. and Branch 57 in Utica, N. Y. will be visited. U N W L A E X H IB IT IN N E W YORK CITY The UNW LA E xh ibit of U k rainian folk art is currently be ing prepared in the Ukrainian American Institute, 2 E. 79th St., New York City. Mrs. Myro- slava Hordynska is in charge of the exhibits which will include rugs, embroidery, ceramics, tap estry and wood carvings. The opening is scheduled for April 7, 1967. A program of Ukrainian m usic will be featured and Uk rainian style refreshm ents will be served.
