Women of Achievement field. The physical aspects of her w orks reflect an archeological know ledge of antiquity’s history and custom s. The spiritual aspect of her w ritings is perm eated w ith C hristian m ysticism . This is es pecially evident in. her num erous, beautiful legends. N atalena K oro leva’s w orks, num bering 1 1 books, are alm ost inaccessible to the U k rainian readers. H aving been published in U kraine, they w ere destroyed by the Red occupation regim e. Y et their influence on our society is still vital and strong. A N IN Q U IR Y S H O W S A M A Z IN G R E S U L T S The U krainian W om en’s A sso ciations in E ngland have come face to face w ith a vital issue. They discovered th at the English wives of U krainian husbands took little or no part in the social acti vities of the U krainian com m uni ty. As a result they conducted a poll w ith an intention of solving some of the “m ixed” m arriage problem s and helping these fo r eign wives enter com m unity life. They w ere sure th at this could be attained by a thorough acqaint- ance w ith th e mode of life by each partner, his custom s, religion and language. The questionnaire looked ap proxim ately like th is : “A re you acquainted w ith U kraine's hfis- tory ?” “W ould you attend a U k rainian language course?” “Do you celebrate U krainian holi days ?” “Do you send your chil dren to U krainian Sunday school?” or “W ould you like to join th e U krainian W om en’s A s sociation?” It also asked for sug gestions on the betterm ent of An- glo-U krainian m arriage relation ships. The UW A prom ised to o r ganize U krainian cooking class for the wives who wished to specialize in the various dishes. The results of the poll turned up w ith an am azing m aterial. M ost of the English wives ex pressed a desire to study their husbands* language and custom s. Each year the W om en’s Inter- E ighty per cent stated their rea diness to take an active p art in religious and social life and be come m em bers of the UW A. They national Exposition bestow s its Medallion of H onor upon wom en whose efforts are shining exam ples of achievem ent in their p ar ticular field of endeavour. The tradition of presenting- Exposition M edallion A w ards has endured since 1922, the year of its found ing. A m ong the five receivers of M edallion A w ards for 1958 is M rs. H elen L ototsky the P resi dent of the U krainian N ational W om en’s League. w ere interested in attending class es in U krainian language, em broi dery, and cooking. Also they ask ed for m anuals on U krainian m u sic and song. The poll had some surprises in store. It disclosed th at about ten per cent of the wives had already m astered the U krainian lan guage, while som e forty per cent saw to it th at their children should learn it. All voiced a desire to join their husbands in com m un ity functions in order to bring about a b etter understanding of th e U krainian question am ong the English. Now U W A sees its duty clearly — to encourage these English wives to join the association’s w ork and thus gain first-hand in form ation about U krainian affairs and also to profit the association by their know ledge of English language and existing conditions. The program book of the W o m en’s International Exposition 1958 brings some biographical notes. O rganizer in the year 1925 of The U krainian N ational W o m en’s League of Am erica, Inc. M rs.
