P resident of the U krainian Catholic W om en’s L eague of Canada The U krainian Catholic W om en’s League in Canada held its bi ennial Convention on June 27-60 in Toronto. This organization is subdivided into four diocesan Leagues w ith centers in Toronto, W innipeg-, .Saskatoon, and E d m onton. It has 150 Branches w ith m ore than 4000 m em bers. A n im portant event took place in 1957, when the League becam e a m em ber of th e W orld Union of Catholic W om en’s O rganizations and participated in its congress which was held in Rome, M rs. Catherine Crouse, President of th e LUCW , was a delegate at this congress and subm itted a report about the w ork of U krainian w o men organized in the League. H unchak’s topic w as edu cational aspects in the League, and M rs. Sagash’s talk about cul- ral developm ent. A very tim ely topic, w hich dealt w ith the need of bringing young w om en into organization, was chosen by M rs. B urtniak, and M rs. Jankiw ska spoke about social w ork in the League. M rs. K. Petecka from Edm on ton was leading th e discussion which followed each delivered speech. IN M E M O R IA M C hapter 37 o f U N W L A — L e sia U k rain k a, D e tr o it, M ich. M em bers of C hapter 37 wish to honor the m em ory of three faithful and loyal m em bers, who. passed aw ay during this past year: M rs. A le x a n d e r B en , deceased M arch 7, 1957, joined the Chap te r shortly after her arrival to th e U nited States in 1947. In her m e m ory a contribution of $14.50 is being made to the Scholarship Fund of the U krainian N ational W om en’s League by m em bers and friends. M rs. M ary H ra d o w sk y , deceas ed July 3, 1957, C harter M em ber and President of the C hapter at the tim e of her death. D evoted and loyal m em ber of the League, in whose m em ory m em bers of C hapter 37 and friends donated a bronze processional cross to the St. John’s U krainian Catholic Church, Clippert St., of w hich pa rish M rs. H radow sky was a belov ed m em ber. The cross was. blessed a t the 9 o’clock M ass, O ctober 20, 1957. * M rs. M a ry K e r y lu k , deceased M ay 14, 1958, for m any years a loyal m em ber and faithful tre a s urer at the tim e of her passing. In her m em ory C hapter 37 sent flow ers, and m em bers and friends contributed to the Scholarship Fund of the U krainian N ational W om en’s League. C ontributions were also m ade to the U krainian C ultural Foundation at W ayne U niversity and to th e In tern a tional Institu te M ortgage Fund. A Sunday School class-room at St. A ndrew ’s M ethodist Church, of which M rs. Keiryluk was a m em ber, w as furnished by her fam ily and friends, in her m em ory. These m em bers shall long live in the m em ory of our wom en for their devotion to Souz U krainok, to their church, and to th eir com m unity. D o n ia D em r a y S ecretary IN S T R U C T IO N IN C O O K IN G M any young women, who for som e reason did not m aster the a rt of cooking at home, would like to learn it from experienced persons. F or their benefit B ranch 63 of U N W LA in D etroit offered a course in cooking stressing es pecially the preparation of U k- krainian dishes w hich are know n to be nourishing, w holesom e as well as diversified. The actual in struction, cooking and baking, took place in the kitchen of the U krainian Hall, which, can easily accom m odate 35 persons. Several experienced m em bers of the Branch served as instructors choosing one of their special skills. M rs. S'humylo- show ed how to prepare poultry for roasting, M rs. P etrina explained rules for fish cookery, M rs. K rochm aluk gave some salad-m aking hints* M rs. Skaskiw instructed in pastry m aking. M rs. K ozak tau g h t th e a rt of baking ta rts, and M rs. Indra supplied inform ation about French pastry. This course w as also open ^to non-m em bers, who not only gain ed some culinary know ledge, but also had the opportunity to come in contact w ith the m em bers of the Branch, thus learning m ore about their w ork in the U N LW A .
