In the Dniester Region Personality in the Adult W om an,” where women from differ ent continents will study the problems of adult education. “Hunger in th e W orld,” with the cooperation of FAO (Food and A griculture O rganization). Commissions by continents will study how associations of C ath olic women may best develop their lines of action with a view to a more specific and a more methodic form ation of Catholic women’s personalities, especially am ong women from hitherto un derprivileged milieux. The last day of the Congress will be held at the FAO (Food and A griculture O rganization) headquarters, and will be entire ly given over to studying the problem of starvation in the world against which, for several years now, Catholic women have been conducting a campaign. The inform a tions must be sent one month in advance. * The Conference of the Region al Councils s'tart in October: On O'ctober 13 will be held the R e gional Conference in Rochester, N. Y., for UNW LA Branches from Rochester, Buffalo, Syra cuse and Utica, N. Y. On October 20 will be held the Regional Conference in New York for Branches from New York and vicinity. On October 27 will be held the Regional Conference for B ran ches from Philadelphia and vici nity at Philadelphia. * Branch 23 of UNW LA in D et roit, Mich., celebrates its 25th an niversary on October б in the Ukrainian N ational Club in D et roit, Mich. * Branch 24 of UNW LA in Eli zabeth, N. J., celebrates its 25th anniversary on October 12 in the Ukrainian Hall in Elizabeth, N.J. The Dniester River encircles from the north a triangle of ele vation of Pokuttya, a part of W est Ukraine. This is a rich, fer tile district sloping toward the river. In this region the folklore has been shaping uniformly, al though the territory sometimes used to be divided by the boun daries of foreign nations. Hence even the costumes of this part of U kraine reflect similar charac teristics. The woman’s costume predo minantly presents an elongated silhouette, variated colors and ornam entation. There are still ex tant some ancient traits which may link the designs to antiquat ed form. One of these may be a wrapper, i.e. a woolen quadrangle which served to fold around the lower part of woman's body. ,She enwrapped it tlightly over the shirt in like manner as she did with her skirt. This wrapper is UKRAINIAN DISHES Fresh Fruit Cup With Wine (4-6 servings) 2 oranges 1 grapefruit 1 banana 1 pear Уг cantaloupe 1 apple juice of one lemon У 2 cup sugar Vz cup dessert wine (Sherry, Port, Muscatel or Tokay) Peel and cut fruit into pieces. Add sugar and lemon juice and mix well, being careful not to mash the fruit. Pour wine over all and allow to stand several hours in ice box, stir ring once or twice. The dresses as well as the em broidery there are expuisite. And the vari ety of stitches is so extensive that one may find the most antiquated diversity along with the newest ones. The man’s garb is more mod est. Still it is likewise distinguish ed by embellisments, notably by embroideries. The man’s shirt possesses very interesting form, namely since it .is being worn over the pants. At some places it reaches the knees thus elongat ing his stature. The folk costumes of the Dnie ster region form an interesting type distinguished from other patterns by its special features. Authentic costume from the Dniester region.
