Marianna Zajac, President of the UNWLA, and 1st Vice President, Lida Jachnycky, attended the annual meeting (a Congress is held every 5 years) of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO) on the occasion of its 70th anniversary.  They also participated in the first international “Assembly 2019 – Ukrainian Women in the World: Professionalism, Activism, Tradition” which was jointly organized by WFUWO and the International Institute for Education, Culture, and Relations with Ukrainians in the Diaspora (MIOK).  Both WFUWO and MIOK events were held at the Lviv Polytechnic National University from August 31, 2019 through September 3, 2019.

While in Lviv, our president and vice president met with several people instrumental to the projects the UNWLA supports in Ukraine. They visited the Lviv Children’s Teaching Hospital Ohmatdyt and met with Dr. Mariana Voznytsia, Director.  Ohmatdyt and the Pediatric Hospital in Zhytomyr will shortly be receiving medical equipment and supplies.  Their transport was paid for by the UNWLA.

They also met with Halyna Teslyuk, coordinator of the UNWLA’s Women’s Studies Center at the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU).  Together they toured the UCU campus church, the University Church of the Holy Wisdom of God and the offices of the Center for Women’s Studies.  Ms. Teslyuk gave our president and vice president current information on the upcoming fall semester women’s studies lectures.

Rev. Taras Baitsar of UCU provided a tour of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Center.  There was a brief meeting with the Rector of UCU, Dr. Fr. Bohdan Prakh. They later met with Rev. Stepan Sus at Lviv’s Saints Peter and Paul Garrison Church.  Fr. Sus oversees the children’s summer and winter camps sponsored by the UNWLA.

According to our 1st VP, Lida Jachnycky “It was a great opportunity to network with Ukrainian women from around the globe and to see firsthand the work being accomplished through the projects we are sponsoring.”
