200 Christmas gifts for Babusi in Ukraine
Babusi means “grandmothers” in Ukrainian – the women who pour love and strength into their families, while quietly needing care and support themselves.
Christmas is a time when, regardless of age, we want to share joy with our loved ones, and when a sense of kindness – with a touch of magic – fills the air. For many of us, Christmas carries the warmest childhood memories, when the world felt safe and gentle, and miracles truly seemed real.
For decades, UNWLA has cared for women in Ukraine whose childhoods were stolen by the brutal Soviet dictatorship. Not only was Christmas forbidden, but many were forcibly removed from their homes and deported to the far northeastern regions of Siberia in russia. Now in their late 80s, these women live in Ukraine, and we continue to support them by providing modest stipends that help cover their most urgent needs and basic necessities.
This Christmas, UNWLA delivered small monetary gifts – made possible by you – to single retired women across Ukraine. Many of them endured political repression at a very young age, while others now face hardship amid yet another wave of ruthless russian aggression against the Ukrainian people.

Thanks to your generosity, these women feel seen, remembered, and supported. Together, we are giving them more than financial assistance – we are keeping their hearts and spirits warm. See for yourself in this thank-you letter we received from the Ivano-Frankivsk NGO of former political prisoners and the repressed.

Christ is Born!
Esteemed Ladies of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America,
On behalf of the Ivano-Frankivsk NGO of former political prisoners and the repressed, we extend our heartfelt greetings to you on Christmas and the New Year 2026, and we sincerely thank you for your support.
It is impossible to put into words how meaningful your attention is to us, and how deeply we value that you do not forget us.
Throughout our lives, we endured cold and hunger in the Siberian camps of russia for 8–10 years, and now, to our great sorrow, we have to survive through the war.
Yet we live with faith and hope for Victory!!!
Once again, with gratitude and respect, the former political prisoners and the repressed of the Ivano-Frankivsk region
Glory to Christ!!!
Meet some of the women who received gifts thanks to you!
