Today, on Palm Sunday, Russia launched two ballistic missiles into downtown Sumy at a time when people were gathering for a church service. As a result of this barbaric attack, 34 people were killed and 117 were wounded — including children and a newborn.
We urge everyone to contact their members of Congress to demand a decisive response to Russia’s barbaric missile attack on Sumy.

TOPIC: I’m calling to urge you to co-sponsor the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 — S. 1241 in the Senate and H.R. 2548 in the House of Representatives — which further restricts Russia’s access to international trade and cuts off the flow of money fueling its war machine.
WHY: While Ukraine has agreed to ceasefire proposals made by the U.S., russian response to ceasefire requests has been to ramp up attacks on civilian targets, including a daytime strike on a playground in Kryvyi Rih on April 4, which killed 9 children and the attack in Sumy on Palm Sunday, which killed at least 32 and wounded at least 99 with numbers mounting. Russia is not interested in peace. It is interested in terrorizing Ukrainian civilians and flouting efforts to negotiate by the United States. The bipartisan Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 imposes sanctions on Russia if it refuses to negotiate peace, violates agreements or initiates further aggression against Ukraine.

(12 PM, noon EST) As of now, it is known that 34 people have been killed. My condolences to all their families and loved ones.
Those were two Russian ballistic missiles. The first hit a building – one of the university buildings. The second exploded right over the street. 117 people were wounded, including children – among them, a baby girl born in 2025. Doctors and all medical workers are doing everything they can to help and save as many lives as possible. I am grateful to all the emergency services who were on the scene within minutes and began rescue operations.
The strike hit right in the heart of the city. On Palm Sunday. Only completely deranged scum can do something like this.

This is a tragic reminder of why President Trump and his Administration are putting so much time and effort into trying to end this war and achieve a just and durable peace.
Despite the festal period associated with the celebration of the Jewish Passover and Christian Easter, the Russian state continues to terrorize Ukrainian cities and villages day and night with drone and missile attacks, as well as shelling. [….] Such actions demonstrate that nothing is sacred for the state that declares itself to be “Holy Rus”. Basic respect for the value of human life is absent, not to mention respect for the holidays of Christianity and Judaism. […] We, heads of Ukrainian Churches and Religious Organizations, strongly condemn the terrorist attacks by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian cities and villages and call on the world’s leading nations to take all possible measures to stop Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and to strengthen Ukraine’s capabilities to defend itself and protect life.
