28 «ЖІНОЧИЙ СВІТ» Section by Young Ukrainians EXPLOITING SUMMER SUMMER, to some the most desirable of seasons, is here. Gone are the long and weary days that we spent imprisoned within the confining walls of our dwellings. Nature is again alive, and that life is pleas- ingly evident in the green grass, the growing trees, the blooming flowers and the singing birds. The entire universe is throbbing with the joy of existence and enticing us into the open. With eager anticipation we succumb to its allure s are completed with a hurried fe vor that the remaining time might be spent outdoors. Gardening, swimming, hiking ап similar activities are crammed into the schedule of our daily pleasures. Each and every one, whether he be weary from. hi daily tasks, or burdened with his troubles, or heart- sore from many disappointments, finds repose in the soothing companionship of Nature. For it is the season which brings new hopes, new life. It is the season in which past troubles and tri- bulations are forgotten and wherein health and vitali- ty are acquired for the task of facing the forthcoming year and weathering future trials, It is also the season in which we expect to sus- pend temporarily organization activities. No one is inclined to spend such beautiful days in stuffy halls or lecture rooms. No one із inclined to listen to the monotonous voice of a lecturer, though his words might be music, for a more delightful music is audible in the open air. No one anticipates the weariness of spending even a few hours іп the meeting room, wrangling over seemingly commonplace and trivial matters. Yet to our mind constantly recurs a Gngle thought. How easily some organization activities can be combined with the enjoyment of pleasures the sum- mer months afford! Especially is this true where the matter of financial benefit is concerned. Though no organization limits itself to the purpose of acquiring proceeds, it is nevertheless apparent, that sole no organization can exist and expand without fi nancial means. Therefore, it is essential, from time to time, that certain social activities be launched with the sole aim of replenishing the club’s treasury. Particularly is it so іп the case of our organizations whose secondary, if not primary, purpose is to send vast amounts of money to our sister organizations abroad. Social functions and other activities containing some element of diversion usually turn out to be suc- cessful, for human nature is so constituted that it is ever seeking pleasure. Such affairs also lend them- selves admirably to the purpose of securing financial success. So why not stage such affairs as picnics, out- door luncheons, festivals, еїс., and allow the pleasure- seeking mortals to indulge in merriment with рез cuniary benefit for the club? If the club does not arrange them, then its members will look for this pleasure elsewhere and indirectly contribute their money to other intere: sometimes even hostile to ou! There are other benefits which may also ensue from such a program of activities. It serves to bind the members of a club into a more compact and friend- ly circle. It creates and fosters a feeling of harmony and unison which are sorely lacking amongthe Ukrain- ians, Furthermore, it insures a smooth running of the following seasons, signs of disruption and ganization as a result of a period of inactivity during the summer. the organization machine in which are usually marked by diso We should, therefore, tal short season of the year and utilize it to the end of our well-being and enjoyment as well as to the end of moral and material benefit for the club. Then we shall feel that we have not neglected our organization duties altogether, and multaneously, we need not lament over the loss of joy of recreation and sunshine which the summer months afford us. advantage of this TRE
