26 «ЖІНОЧИЙ СВІТ» UKRAINIANS MARCH ІМ PROTEST | MARCH TO CITY HALL—Detroit Ukrain- ians gathered in Cass Park Sunday and ра- raded to City Hall in a demonstration against | what they term the mistreatment of their countrymen in Europe by the Russian Soviet, The parade is shown passing down Cass avenue, (Times picture.) separate was characteristically Bolshevik, or, in other words, utterly false and meaningless, Instead of freedom of choice, the Ukraine has been dragooned, exploited, terrified and subjected to relentless persecution to make her people accept Bol- shevism. Her scholars and leaders have been arrested and imprisoned. Some of them have been executed and others driven to commit suicide. Thea Moscow Bol- shevists when their methods failed, resorted to whole- sale deportation of Ukrainians in the mass, It is re- ported that 2500 village communities have been driven out of the Ukraine into remote sections of Russia, and all who dared to criticize or protest а- gainst this action were dealt with summarily. Prison, execution, deportation were not enough. These failed in their objective against the indomitable will of the Ukrainian people to resist Bolshevist Moscow, and then the deadliest of all weapons in Moscow's armory of hate and destruction was deyised. That was an organ- ized attempt to starve the people into submission. Ukraine is the granary of Europe — with wheat In 1932 and in the present year her harvests have been abundant, yet her fields rivalling the Argentine people are dying of starvation. Why? Because Bol- shevist Moscow needs the wheat for its supporters and Ukr ercion. These unfortunates has taken it from the inians by force and co- dare not eat what they plant. They must see it taken from them and survive or perish without it. To cite proofs of this heartless cruelty, this abysmal villainy, this unprecedented plundering of a helpless people, would reveal a tale both horrifying and revolting. It will be sufficient to state that European and American newspapers have publ s and letters from those conversant with the actual situation, and to quote from the appeal addressed to all “who believe in God,” by the Ukrain- ian Catholic bishops of Galicia, which said: “Ukraine is in the clutches of death. The population is dying of starvation.”
