«ЖІНОЧИЙ СВІТ» 31 This immediate ii tion that I speak of is a simple procedure for the patient and it has other ad- vantages too. Impr are before extractions. The teeth to be extracted are removed from the model and the partial or full denture is made. The ap- pliance is adjusted to position by the use of a surgical dressing which becomes hard a few mo- ments after being mixed. Perhaps the biggest advantage in this method is the fact that the surgical dres alleviates post operative discomfiture, that is, the discomfiture or soreness that sometimes follows the ex- traction of teeth. Now the business man may be assured that his work will not be interrupted or his time lost be- cause of a neces: No one in faet has out teeth for a duration of time longer that a few moments. As a dentist I am somewhat proud of the progress made by my own profession. If what hi been achieved in the past few years is a criterion of the futur: then indeed dentistry will contr bute vastly more to posterity. taken В: UKRAINIAN УСЮТН'8 CONGRESS On August 16 of Ukrainitn( Week an Ukrainian Youth’s Con- gress is going to convene in Chieago. All the young people’s organizations of the United States and Canada are asked to send representatives. The Con- gress aims to unite all young Uk- rainians that they may work to- gether in planning for the well- being of young Ukrainians of to- day and those of the future. Whether or not our language, our folk-songs, and folk-dances continue to exist depends un- doubtedly upon the youg people. This group that is to convene in Chicago will have new and fresh ideas. It will act upon the basis of benefiting young Uk- rainians and uniting them un- der one big head. With the centre in Chieago, branches can be organized everywhere to carry on the work. Don’t fail to send out your delegates, Remember, young people, our parents are depending upon us to carry on. Louise Misko. VLADIMIR KARBULYCKY — A BEGGAR A beggar stopped me one day while I was strolling down the street. He was very thin and ragged, his eyes red with tears, and his blue lips quivering. Oh, how mercilessly misery elutehed this unfortunate creature within her claws! He extended his swollen dirty hand and groaned. 1 began searching through my pockets for something to give him, — no wallet, no watch, not even an handkerchief. I had not taken anything with me. But Embarr ling hand firmly and “Brother, forgive me, I have no- thing.” ‘The beggar looked straight into my eyes, twisted his blue lips into а smile, and pressed my hand tightly. ,,Brother,” he whisper- ed, ,Гіл thankful to you even for this. This is also an alm.” I realized that I had also re- ceived an alm from my brother. Translated by Louise Misko. LEISURE TIME What should a child do to derive the greatest benefit of his leisure time during the summer months? Since school is out for the next three months and the children do not have to be bothered with daily school work, some are at a loss as to how they should spend their leisure time. The summer months are considered by most children as a time of complete relaxation from school work. But is it so? If this is so, when is the Uk- rainian child to become acquaint- ed with the grammar and history of its fathers? Surely, the sum- mer vacation offers the best op- portunity for this, because dur- ing the school months, the student must center his thoughts on the American studies. Probably the next question which comes to mind is, “How is he to obtain this knowledge? There are several ways this can be done. The most practical way is to attend Ukrainian schools which are functioning, no doubt, in every sizeable Ukrain- ian community. Another way is by reading Uk- rainian books, especially the works of our famous writers. ‘These are obtainable in several of our leading publishers at a very reasonable rate. In fact, one of these concerns is having a large sale on books at the present time. Why not capitalize these great opportunities to edueate oneself in his native tongue in his leisure time? Surely, no great benefit can be derived otherwise, and Гіп quite sure you'll not regret it: Natalie Manasterski Aliquippa, Pa.
