20 «ЖІНОЧИЙ СВІТ» Section by Young Ukrainians THE SPIRIT OF GOOD WILL As the Wheel of Time revolves on its axis and brings us to the end of the year, the gay season of Yuletide envelops us. And then the spirit of joy pervades the entire earth. The grown-ups seek to brighten the lives of the youngsters by bestowing upon them the gifts they have longed for the entire year. The more fortunate seek to aid the less for- tunate, at least to the extent that no one should pass the Christmas day in hunger or cold. Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, relatives and friends ex- tend to each other sincere greetings and exchange little tokens of their mutual affection. Grudges are forgotten, offenses are forgiven and apologies are tendered. Everywhere may be heard the expres- sion: “Peace on Earth and Good Will towards Men.” And as the echo of this expression resounds in our ears, we cannot help but sigh. If only the Ukrainian people would choose to adopt this golden rule and apply it to their own lives! And as we continue to ponder more questions arise in our minds. Will there ever come a time when peace will reign among the Ukrainians and they shall conduct themselves in the spirit of good will to- ward each other? Will there ever come a time when they will finally realize that only one aim do they have, although they have chosen different methods of attaining it? Will there ever come 2 time when they will become broadminded enough to forgive and forget the petty offenses and foolish quarrels which have differentiated them and brought about dissension and hostility in their midst? Ne? PRE ASE SAS WE HEREBY EXTEND TO OUR READERS AND SUBSCRIBERS BEST WISHES FORA Merry Akrainian Christmas AND A Happy New Year Yet as we voice our queries and lament the absence of harmony in our ranks, a faint ray of hope creeps into our heart, seemingly dispelling our fears. Our Youth! Our Youth! Surely, they will not succumb to the bigotry and intolerance which have imbedded themselves so deeply in the souls of their fathers? Surely, they will not stoop to don those old-fashioned and outworn cloaks of their fathers’ minds which have only served to dis guise personal animosity and hatred? No! Our Youth has been brought up in a new world, in a new environment, in a new age. And it is but log- ical that they should wish to garb their minds in rainment befitting this modern age. And though they may lack the intense feelings and ardent passions of their parents for Our Cause, though they manifest a lesser understanding of the problems to be solved, though they may expend less energy and time in the task of liberating Ukraine, they will make up for these deficiencies by pos я the attributes of broadmindness and impartiality. So lead on, Ukrainian Youth! May your un- prejudiced minds and wholesome attitudes conduct you on the journey of your life and the life of your people! May the spirit of your good will toward low-Ukraini your ranks into a harmoni- ous and effective organization, thus supplying the means to attain your aim! “ZINOCHY SVIT.”
