96 ХХ Х І I Конвенція СУА who will be returning to these areas to serve, are critical for the future of the UGCC in the war - affected areas. (September 10, 2018) On behalf of our membership, I accepted The Medal of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara that was presente d by Patriarch Filaret of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Kyiv Patriarchate in recognition of “our organization’s great commitment towards Ukraine” and “our dedication to Ukrainians of all walks of life.” (September 14, 2018) During the announcement of the results of the annual competition, My Dear Land ( Мій Рідний Край ), organized by Soyuz Ukrainok Ukrainy and held at Lviv City Hall, UNWLA was presented with the Medal of King Lev , the patron of Lviv , for supporting the students of the city. Students between the ages of 12 and 25, who are motivated to contribute to the future of their homeland Ukraine, are invited to participate in this competition. UNWLA annually covers the costs of publishing the wi nners’ works. This year, 2018 , was the first year during which a UNWLA President was present at the awards ceremony. (September 2018) A Certificate of Appreciation from the Mayor of Lviv, Andri y Sadovi y was awarded to President Marianna Zajac “for signif icant personal contribution to the development of Ukrainian - American relations, strengthening the Ukrainian community in the diaspora and Ukraine.” (September 2019) During the 2019 WFUWO Annual Meeting in Lviv, Oreslava Khomyk of Soyuz Ukrainok Ukrainy gav e President Marianna Zajac the great distinction of being recognized as an “Honored Member” of SUU. During this visit to Ukraine, SUU also bestowed on UNWLA a Certificate of Gratitude for many years of support for the SUU - sponsored student writing competit ion. (September 2019) A Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to UNWLA by Iryna Kliuchkovska , Director of MIOK (International Institute of Education, Culture, and Diaspora Relations) for supporting Ukraine in general and for our participation in the important panel discussion Activism for Change and Progress held during the First International Assembly of Ukrainia n Women in Lviv. (September 2019) In Lviv, on the occasion of WFUWO’s 70 th anniversary, WFUWO President Anna Kisil present ed President Marianna Zajac with the Protectoress of the Ukrainian People Award for “unique contribution to the strengthening of the U krainian women's movement in the world as an element of the global democratic movement for human rights, to the development of WFUWO and Ukrainian women's organizations as an example of mature citizenship within the diaspora and countries of settlement, an d for the support and development of Ukraine.” (October 2019) The Award of the Golden Cross was given to UNWLA by Bishop Stepan Sus, Head of the Center of Military Chaplaincy of the UGCC Archeparc h y of Lviv on the Day of the Defender of Ukraine for promoti ng Christian values and support for the nation’s soldiers, the defenders of Ukraine. Leadership Positions in Ukrainian Organizations World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO) held its XI Congress from October 25 t o October 27, 2018, along with the commemoration of WFUWO’s 70 th anniversary, in Philadelphia, the city of WFUWO’s founding. I represented UNWLA was as a memb er of the planning committee, and UNWLA representatives who attended the events in Philadelphia were inspired by the delegates who reported on their successes, but also shared the numerous challenges their organizations face.
