ХХ Х II Конвенція СУА 95 Awards and Commendations (March 29, 2017) Ukrainian National Women’s League of America was the w inner of Ukraine’s nationa l competition Charitable Ukraine . Since information about this award was not received in time to be included in the 2017 UNWLA Convention B ook, I will provide a summary here. This award is one of great pride for UNWLA . The 2016 Charitable Ukraine competition had a record number of applicants – 744! There were 15 main categories, three categories for individuals, and four special categories. One of the special ca tegories was “Aid from Abroad.” On March 29 , 2017, UNWLA won the competition in this category ! The award of the competition - the Angel of G oodness - was presented by Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro - Atlantic integration Ivanna Klympush Tsintsadze at the offices of the Kyiv City State Administration. Representing UNWLA at the ceremony were Dr. Maria Furtak, UNWLA representative in Ukraine on matters of social welfare, and Olena Vlasenko, President, Zhytomyr Branch, Soyuz Ukrainok Ukrainy. Many special guests were present at the awards ceremony: representatives from five religious confessions of Ukraine ; First Lady of Ukraine Maryna Poroshenko ; C hair , Supervisory Board of Ukraine 3000 Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko ; Minis ter of Culture of Ukraine Eugene Nyschuk ; Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Lilya Hrynewych ; author, poet and publisher Ivan Malkovich ; lead vocalist of the band Mandry Serhi y Fomenko ; artist Angel ik a Rudnytska, and other renown figures. In the competition’s final round, the organization Caritas from Poland, and the Coordination Office of the Turkish Agency of Cooperation and Coordination in Ukraine were in competition with UNWLA. The presence of non - Ukrainian international organi zations in this category clearly demonstrates that Ukraine is not alone in the fight against Russian aggression. R ecognition of UNWLA contributions to Ukraine is a great honor for us , confirming that the longstanding ideals , goals, faith, and efforts of ou r organization now, a s well as that of previous generations of the Ukrainian diaspora , has not gone unrecognized . (October 14, 2017) Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly presented a Certificate of Appreciation to President Marianna Zaj ac for “many years of active community work for the good of Ukraine” and for her “personal contribution to the strengthening of Ukrainian - American ties.” (November 5, 2017) Ukrainian Catholic University President Bishop Borys Gudziak awarded UNWLA with a Certificate of Appreciation for contribution s to UCU’s development through the programs supported by UNWLA, such as Prostir Nadii and UNWLA Lectureship in Women’s Studies, (now Women’s Studies Center). Patriarch Sviatoslav of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church signed the certificate. At the St. Regis Hotel in New York City, Marianna Zajac and Bishop Borys Gudziak (September 9, 2018) On behalf of UNWLA, I accepted the Patriarchal Certificate of Recognition given by Rev. Petro Zhuk , Rector, Ukrainian Greek Catholic Three Saints Theological Seminary. Rev. Zhuk initiated the recognition that was signed by Patriarch Sviatoslav. The Patriarch stated that the seminarians from the war - torn regions of Ukraine, whom UNWLA has been supportin g since 2017, and
