Both organizati ons will follow the academic and professional progress of the students we supported. In addition to the students supported by the Shevchenko Scientific Society, the donation by UNWLA of $20,000 to the joint program directly supported an d addition al 12 scholarship students. Support Hospitals in Ukraine and Project C.U.R.E . Support Hospitals in Ukraine is an American organization le d by Vitaliy Dubil, founder and coordinator of this international humanitarian project that has delivered $3.5 million in medical supplies from the United States to hospitals in Ukraine. The organi zation is committed to delivering this aid in a sustainable, transparent, and cost - effec tive manner by collaborating with Project C.U.R.E., one of the largest med ical surplus recovery not - for - profit organizations in America. In May 2019, UNWLA provided a grant of $23,000 to deliver a shipping container filled with medical equipment and supplies to Lviv Regional Children’s Hospital and to the Zhytomyr Children’s Hospital. In Lviv in Septem ber 2019, with UNWLA 1st Vice President Lydia Jachnycky, we visited t he Lviv Regional Children’s Hospital where we met with the hospital’s director. Ukrainian Historical Encounters Series Held at the Princeton Club in New York City, the Ukrainian Historical Encounter, a series of conferences sponsored by the Center for U.S. - Ukrainian Relations that annually addresses a topic of historical importance related to Ukraine. On September 21, 2019 , the conference topic was Celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the Organized Ukrainian American Community. Several UNWLA members attended this special event and I spoke during the first panel, “ Foundation Stones of the Ukrainian American Community. ” Other panel participants included Roma Lisovich, Treasurer, Ukrainian Natio nal Association (UNA) and Andrew Futey, President, Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA). The panel moderator was Irene Jarosewich, former editor - in - chief of the UNA newspaper S voboda . UNWLA stands proudly within the ranks of our community as one of our oldest and strongest organizations, a true “foundation stone” of the Ukrainian diaspora in North American. Several years ago, t he UNA sponsored the member appreciation event at the UNWLA XXXI Convention in Tampa, Florida. These two organization s, UNA and UNWLA , are among the oldest in the Ukrainian American diaspora, and each has supported the other for generations.
