Over the years, our branch has sponsored a wide variety of fundraisers such as brunches, educational events, and historic commemorations. Our events raise money in order to provide humanitarian aid to sold iers and their families in Ukraine. We also sponsor elementary, middle school, and high school students in Ukraine by supporting the UNWLA Scholarship Program. Holiday luncheons have been held throughout the years, providing additional opportunities to soc ialize and build friendships. Some of our members travel from neighboring communities to attend our monthly meetings, educational classes, and social events. The members of our branch active ly participate in the St. Pet ersburg International Folk Fair , an event during which we introduce visitors to and educate visitors about Ukrainian culture and traditions. Not only do w e teac h others about our heritage. We believe that learning more about our Ukrainian traditions and culture is important for us all. We have held workshops on making pysanky and gerdany , on the preparation of traditional holiday foods, and held baking classes. In December, we further share our traditions by sponsoring the arrival of St. Nicholas to our community. The St. Petersburg community and our branch members commemorate historic events such as Ukrain e’s Independence Day and honor those who have given their lives for freedom. We also work together organizing and implementing memorable programs. Branch members are grateful to our community for their commitment to and constant support of Branch 124 . Branch 124 members believe in supporting the eld erly, ill, and homebound in our community by visiting them, sending cards during sp ecial occasions, preparing Easter baskets, and show support during a time of need. Memorial liturgies are held to commemorate historic Ukrainian events and to honor our beloved branch members who have gone to their ete rnal rest. The UNWLA XXXI Convention was held in Tampa, Florida. We are very proud to say that the four Florida branches, (Miami, Northport, Naples, and St. Petersburg) formed a Convention Committee. Each branch had specific responsibilities that were vita lly important. We met often, planned, organized, and in 2017 held a memorable XXXI Convention.
