In 2017, we began with 20 members and ended 2020 with 33. In 2017, we organized the screening of the film Music of Survival and ended th e year with our now - signature vyshyvanky exhibit at our local Shrewsbury public library. That exhibit led to many additiona l public exhibits and events in following years. In 2018 , the highlight was our 30 th anniversary celebration/fundraiser that allowed us to fund the purchase of an Apple computer for the Scholarship P rogram . We supported the 2019 exhibit “ FULL CIRCLE: Ukraine's Struggle for Indep endence 100 Years Ago, 1917 - 1921” at the Ukrainian Museum with a $1,565 contribution. Many events and exhibits were held in 2019, and in 2020, despite COVID - 19 restrictions, the branch raised $4,200 for the Babusi F und. The branch actively shares Ukrainian culture and h istory with the public through exhibits an d events at our libraries in Monmouth and Middlesex counties in New Jersey. In 2017, the bra nch organized an exhibit “ Vyshyvanky , Embroidery of Ukraine.” The exhibit traveled to four libraries and was on display for seven months. In 2019 , the branch organi zed a Holodomor exhibit at two of the libraries. I n early 2020, although the branch organized a n exhibit of r izba at a local library , due to COVID - 19 restrictions, the exhibit was cancelled . The bra nch held 12 public events: three lectures on the “ Art of Ukrainian Embroidery,” one hands - on e mbroidery workshop, four lectures on the “ Ancient Art of Pysanky , The Ukrainian Easter Egg,” two pysanky decorating workshops , and a hands - on Petrykivk a folk art workshop . In March 2019 , w e screened the documentary film Harvest of Despair at the Shrewsbury library and in June 2019 , participated in the Rutgers University Folk Festival where we demonstrated the art of making pysanky and shared information with festival guests about a variety of Ukrainian to pics, from beautiful v yshyvanky and to the tragedy of Holodomor.
