234 ХХ Х II Конвенція СУА UNWLA BRANCH 88, PHILADELPHIA, PA PHILADELPHIA REGIONAL COUNCIL On May 31, 1988, a group of 20 young, talented, and enthusiastic women established Branch 88 as a part of the Philadelphia Regional Council. Our focus was the preservation of Ukrainian culture and the sharing of our culture with the surrounding American c ommunity. Throughout the years, our branch membership has grown and we have embraced other goals, including charitable and fundraising activities both here and in Ukraine. We were motivated by our love of Ukrainian culture, in particular the folk arts, to organize exhibits and educational seminars promoting this cultural legacy. In 2006, our branch presented our first unique exhibit of straw mosaics, tapestries, batiks on silk, gouaches, and mixed media at the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center (UECC ) in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, featuring the works of three generations of the Sayenko family from Ukraine. Proceeds from the event were donated to help children in Ukraine, many of whom were orphaned because of Russian aggression in eastern regions of Ukr aine. Throughout the years, Branch 88 has worked in conjunction with the Ukrainian Heritage Studies Center at Manor College presenting many exhibits at the UECC. Our first joint exhibit, held in 2009, was entitled "Ukrainian Embroidery - A Metamorphosis in Beauty and Function." This three - day event included seminars that identified the origins, symbolism, design patterns, and colors used in different regions of Ukraine. A display with a wide variety of embroidered works was displayed in the UECC Gallery. In 2010, an exhibit titled " Pysanky through the Ages" was held at UECC. In addition to the
