Not pictured: Eileen Mat iash, Nancy Hollinger. Branch 38 is located in Denver , but draws members from other cities and com - munities in Colorado. Currently, President Inya Saldyt and Treasurer Olya Bugir lead the branch . Our membership is 20 women. During the reporting period 2017 – 2020 , branch members reached out to the Ukrainian communi ty to mark two important events: the 40th anniversary of the founding of our branch and 85th anniversary of the Holodomor. For the 40 th anniversary, branch members invited friends and community leaders to a reception and luncheon prepared by our members. A short history of Branch 38 activities was distributed prior to the prepared program at which two founding members, Maria Figlus and Dozia Fedak , shared their recollection s of the most important events in the branch's history and offered wishes for future success. Our branch commemorated the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor with a solemn and informative meeting for the community. Efforts to have the forced famine in Ukrain e recognized by the United Nations as genocide were part of the discussion. In addition, participants shared recollections of stories about the famine that they remember having heard from older family members. Branch members held monthly meetings that usu ally included a social hour and potluck then followed by exchange of news and attention to UNWLA business. Holidays were marked by our continued tradition of communal dinners. At Christmas, we shared a Ukrainian Christmas meal followed by the singing of Uk rainian carols and a gift exchange. During the COVID restrictions of 2020 , members could no longer meet in person, but online Zoom meetings filled that need. Ania Savage
