Our members live in an approximately 75 - mile area between greater Miami - Dade and Broward c ounties. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church is at the heart of most of our activity, but gathering in 2020 has been rare, if at all. Branch President Olha Sperkacz has done a remarkable job of remain ing in touch with our members, of offering assistance where needed and, in general, worked hard to hold us together in this difficult year . Given the pandemic constraints, our branch participated in various virtual events, including a literary evening spon sored by Branch 56, the 95 th Anniversary of UNWLA, the Koliada concert sponsored by the Ukrainian Museum, and many Zoom meetings. Our branch made donations to the victims of the summer flood in Ukraine, as well as donations to a fund to purchase Christmas gifts for orphans in Ukraine. So that the beauty of our liturgy remains alive and accessible via Facebook livestream, through the pandemic ABVM Choir Director Donna Maksymowich - Waskiewicz led a choir of composed of a few members. As director of the Ukraini an Dancers of Miami, Donna also conducts virtual rehearsals to keep the dancing and relationships alive among troupe members. Oksana Piaseckyj continues her important work with the U.S. Holodomor Committee and conducted several webinars with Miami Dade Col lege. Our members remain busy and all the activity reflects favorably on UNWLA.
