ХХХ II Конвенція СУА 177 Socializing with others is an important aspect of BAL. Many branches sponsor functions such as Vyshyvani Vechornytsi , Debutante Balls, Father’s Day Luncheons, as well as dinners and dances for Valentines Day. These planned events bring members together and encourage the community to participate while supporting important branch causes. Educating others about Ukrainian heritage, history, and cult ure is an important goal common to all BALs. Each branch has their own creative way of educating individuals about Ukraine. Programs honoring renowned individuals in Ukrainian history such as Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, and others are often presented . Opportunities are taken to remember historic events such as the Chornobyl nuclear disaster and the Holodomor. Ukrainian traditions such as Easter and Christmas are kept in hopes of maintaining and perpetuating the love of our heritage. Our youth is encou raged to learn about Ukraine in enjoyable ways such as the game of Jeopardy where all categories are related to Ukraine. When learning about Ukrainian art, individuals are often mesmerized by the fine details in the pysanka or traditional Ukrainian embroid ery. In 2020, UNWLA members and guests commemorated the 95 th Anniversary of our organization. As Liaison for BAL, I had the opportunity to work closely with the BAL presidents in order to produce a video highlighting each branch’s goals and important even ts from over the years. The BAL slide show prepared for the 95 th Anniversary was interesting and informative. Although each of the 16 UNWLA Branches - at - Large is unique, it was evident that branch goals fell into three categories: supporting humanitarian ai d, building a strong community, and educating others about Ukrainian culture, heritage, and traditions. We could be proud of the UNWLA Branches - at - Large (BAL), for they have been successfully achieving their goals while making a positive impact on many liv es. For me, it has been a great pleasure to work with these dedicated women in Branches - at - Large. Being Liaison over the years, I am honored to have had the opportunity to meet so many amazing women, learn much, gain good friends, and feel a sense of unity and sisterhood, all due to being part of the UNWLA Branches - at - Large.
