122 ХХ Х І I Конвенція СУА • Together with the efforts of the N ew J ersey C ommittee, in October of 2018 organized a “Candl e in Remembrance” commemoration at the Ukrainian American Cultural Center in Whippany NJ. The number of guests was large. Am ong those attending were six officials representing Morris County, NJ, and other surrounding municipalities. The event was attended , as well, by a Holodomor survivor whose re collections w ere read aloud to the audience. • G ave a lecture on the Holodomor to 6 th , 7 th and 8 th graders at a Catholic element ary school in NJ in November 2018 , and a nother lecture to a high school - a ged group of Ukrainian Scouts ( Plastuny ) in 2019. • At the request of the Ukrainian - American community in Toms River, organized a “Candle in Remembranc e” commemoration in December 2018. • P urchased a Holodomor “Exhibit in a Box” from Canada that contained 100 posters, as well as several books, and videos about the Holodomor. This collection was made available to b ranch and Region al Councils that had plans to organize a Holodomor exhibit. Branch 98 of Matawan was the first branch to utilize these materials for an exhibit at a public library in Shrewsbury, NJ. • At the request of the US Co mmittee for Ukrainian Holodomor Genocid e Awareness, organized the logistics for the first “Holodomor Forum” hel d in Philadelphia in October 2019 , and attended by people from the US and Canada . Membership Outreach As a representative of the Executive Committee , I had the pleasure of attending a number of National Board, Regional Council and branch events. • Attended a nnual meetings of Regional Councils, including th e New Jersey Council in June 2017, the Phil adelphia Council in February 2019, and again , t he New Jersey Council in May 2019 at which I conveyed greetings from the Executive Committee and expressed gratitude for their contributions to the organization. These meetings gave me the opportunity to speak with some wonderful women and reply to their questions. • R epresented the National Board at the New York Regional Council Den ’ Soyuzianky event in October 2017 , as well as at the N ew J ersey Regional Council Den’ Soyuzianky event in Whippany , NJ in 2018. • A ttended Branch 98 anniversary in 2018. • As a delegate from the UNWLA, attended the 70 th anniversary WFUWO Convention in Philadelphia in October 2018. This was another wonderful opportunity to meet Ukrainian women from across the globe. Represented were Ukrainian women’s organizations from severa l European countries, Ukraine, Argentina, Canada, and Australia. At this event , I also organized and led a Holodomor “Candle in Remembrance” commemoration for the conference participants. • In April 2018, met with members of the Scholarship and Student Spons orship Committee at their offices in Matawan, NJ , where I became reacquainted with the committee’s work. In the early 1970s - 80 s , I was a member of this program, at the time helping Anna Krawchuk computerize program files. • L ed quarterly meetings of the cha irs of the UNWLA Standing Committees . This liaison function enables information sharing between the Executive Committee and the Standing Committees . Publicity and Media Communications • W rote several articles for Our Life and The Ukrainian Weekly and provi ded UNWLA holiday (Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Mother’s Day, Ukrainian Independence Day) greeting ads to the Ukrainian community newspapers Svoboda , The Ukrainian Weekly , Meest , and Nova Hazeta . • On behalf of the UNWLA, w rote numerous congratulatory, birthday, far ewell, and anniversary greetings and letters to various di gnitaries, Regional Councils, and b ranches. • Worked with designers to develop ads for the UNWLA 95th A nniversary Gala event.
