112 ХХ Х І I Конвенція СУА CHRISTINE BOYKO 2 nd VICE PRESIDENT FOR MEMBERSHIP In these unprecedented times, I am so proud to be a member of th is great organization. As I bega n to write this report, I remembered the phrase with which I ended my last report: “ I’m honored to be included in this circle of friends . We continue onward. ” What I have since re alized is that we also have a circle of support and even more powerful, a circle of influence . Using virtual programs, we can grow our network. How can we do tha t ? We support, uplift , and encourage each other so that we can grow to be the best we can be. We have great, effective women as lea ders and mentors, m embers who can discuss issues and support each other. With our circles of friends, support and influence, y ou will find that problems melt away and opportunities open up. W e must never accept bullies or intimidators. If someone is allowed to badmouth, put down, or intimidate others during meetings, we are , in essence , giving this individual permission, thus a uthority , to continue. This is why we have tools like Robert’s Rules of Order to keep us organized and on track. W e are an inclusive yet diverse group of women in age and immigration. We empower women in our Ukrainian communities. We teach leadership skills. We have women who feel confident in their abilities and positions within the UNWLA that flows into community life. We are effective leaders. We sometimes do not even realize it when it happens, but it does. We influence thos e around us w ith leadership by example. My main area of concern was branch retenti on, while Valentyna Tabaka was in charge of helping create new branch es. I participated in Executive Committee monthly meetings by telecon ference, WebEx, Zoom, and one in - person meeting . I attended all National Board meetings including the last two that were virtual meetings. I participated in a teleconference call, then Z oom meetings w ith Branches - at - Large. I wrote two articles for Our Life magazine; one on the topic about how branch es s hould write their reports for the convention book and co - authored with Natalia Pawlenko another about how branch es are cop ing with the pandemic. I wrote two circulars regarding annual reports, submissions to the UNWLA XXXII Convention for certificates ( hra moty ), and awards. I assisted with the dissolution of Branch 46 that celebrated their 50 th anniversary. After that, together we planned and followed all the procedures and protocols to close the branch . I assisted with the establishment of three new br anches (140, 141, 142), which included issuing their Charter Certificate, letter of acceptance from the Executive Committee , sending resource materials to help them get started and provid ing assistance by answering their questions and making suggestions an d offering examples on how to run meetings . Branch es 140 and 141 were created due to the tireless efforts of Valentyna Tabaka who sought out leaders that orga nized the two bran ches. Branch 142 was established in the Detroit metropolitan area with the mentorship of their Regional Council Pre sident Yaroslava Hlyn ska , and assista nce from their Membership Chair Anna Macielinska. ______________________ Branch 142, Warren, Michigan
