90 ХХХІ Конвенція СУА September 20, 2016: Nadiya Savchenko visited the offices of the UNWLA and was greeted by a small group of local UNWLA members. After Roksolana Misilo and I welcomed Nadiya, we emphasized that the UNWLA is a non-political organization and that although she is viewed as controversial, the United States respects free speech, adding that we would like to offer her the opportunity to share her thoughts with us. October 13, 2016: the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations, together with the Permanent Missions of the United States and Israel, held a Commemorative Event at the United Nations on the 75 th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy. After the formal event, Ambassador Power shared with us that she is an “honorary” Ukrainian after her months of becoming familiar with the problems of Ukraine and defense of Ukrainians. November 8, 2016: On UNWLA’s invitation, the Ukraini- an Minister of Education and Science, Liliya Hrynevych, visited the Ukrainian Museum. The Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic Mu- seum of Lviv, Fr. Bohdan Prakh, also joined us for an exhibit tour followed by a luncheon at the Museum. We were afforded the op- portunity to pose questions about the education system in Ukraine to the Minister, as well as more specific questions about UCU to the Rector. The Minister expressed her admiration for the UN- WLA’s work and her gratitude to the Museum’s Director for being the face of Ukraine in NYC . _______________________________ Minister of Education, L. Chernobyl April 26, 2016: The United Nations General Assembly held a commemorative meeting to mark the 30th anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster. H.E. Mogens Lykketoftl, President of the 70th session of the General Assembly, stated that “(...) we must continue to demonstrate international solidarity so that those most affected by this accident will be able to recover to the fullest.” Following this assembly, Ambassador Yelchenko invited guests to attend the dedication of a Chornobyl-themed photo exhibit.
