ХХХI Конвенція СУА 89 MEETINGS WITH UKRAINIAN GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES February 28, 2015: The UNWLA was invited to and participated in a meeting of tri-state diaspo- ra organization leaders with Andrij Parubiy. This event was arranged by the New York branch of the Or- ganization for Defense of Four Freedoms and was followed by a general diaspora meeting with the Depu- ty Speaker. Sunday, April 26, 2015: I attended a working lunch meeting between Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko and leaders of the Ukrainian American community from the New York City area. Mr. Klitschko stressed that he is placing his very reputation on the line in the battle against corruption, and representatives promised to continue our volunteer efforts against Russia’s propaganda war. August 6, 2015: I received an invitation from the Ukrainian Mission in Washington, D.C to at- tend a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador, Valeriy Chaly. The participants listened to the Ambassador’s presentation of his goals while he also touched upon how our diaspora organizations can help in keeping the most current news on Ukraine alive by contacting our representatives. During the 2015 WFUWO annual meeting, the President of the Ukrainian Women’s League of Sweden, Zoriana Kiktsio, arranged a private meeting with the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Sweden, Ihor Sahach. The Ambassador received our delegation very warmly, summarized the relation- ship between Sweden and Ukraine, and gladly answered our questions. September 29, 2015: On the invitation of the Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania in New York, UNWLA Vice President for Public Relations, Roksolana Misilo, and I attended a round table: “Future of Eastern Europe: Empowerment of Women.” The goal of the discussion was to advance the role of women in managing and resolving conflicts and fostering economic and political re- forms. The President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite, opened and narrated the program. Also on September 29, an informal meeting with Mrs. Maryna Poroshenko was held at the Ukrainian Mission to the United Nations. I extended warm greetings on behalf of the gath- ering of women organizational leaders, after which each repre- sentative was invited to share her organization’s goals and work with the First Lady. At the end of the meeting, I gifted the First Lady with several wearable art Masha Archer necklaces (to the envy of those present). __________________________________ First Lady of Ukraine, M. Poroshenko, at the Ukrainian United Nations Mission December 4, 2015: I and Vera Kushnir, Financial Secretary, met with Dr. Ulana Suprun, Director of Humanitarian Initiatives for the World Congress in Ukraine at the time and now acting Minister of Health of Ukraine, to discuss a possible project partnership. On the same day, we had meetings in the Parliamentary offices with Iehor Soboliev, Chair of the Committee on Preventing and Fighting Corruption; Mariia Ionova, Deputy Chair of the Committee on European Integration; and Iryna Lutsenko, member of the Committee on Human Rights. These visits gave us an idea about the general political landscape in Ukraine, and it remained clear that this was still an up- hill battle. June 17, 2016: I attended an informal meeting with Ukraine’s Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman held at The Ukrainian Museum in New York City. The Prime Minister and his entourage of diplomats, as well as the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Valerij Chalij; the Ukrainian Am- bassador to the United Nations, Volodymyr Yelchenko; and the Consul General of Ukraine to New York, Ihor Sybiga, were greeted at the museum entrance by the UM’s director, Maria Shust, and by myself in my dual capacity as the UM’s First Vice President and as the UNWLA’s National President.
