ХХХI Конвенція СУА 83 MEMBERSHIP As with the dynamics of any organization spanning nine decades, we are faced with the reality of aging membership and find certain branches unable to continue their work. We are immeasurably grateful for these members’ dedication and commitment to the UNWLA and are honored to have worked beside them. At the same time, we see the birth of new branches in New Jersey, Florida, Connecticut, and Ohio. I had the great honor and privilege to participate in three branch christenings since the last Convention: Branch #134 in New Jersey, #136 in Florida and # 137 in New Jersey. We find ourselves at a crossroads in the further development of our organization, and this will require a concentrated focus for the immedi- ate future. OUR LIFE We are very proud of our magazine, which has celebrated its 70 th anniversary of profiling female personalities in past and present Ukrainian life, as well as sharing the accomplishments of our Regional Councils and Branches. Since my first term as President in 2008, I have chosen to use this vehicle to share my work in representing our organization in my monthly column, since this magazine is the face of our organization in print. During this timeframe, Olesia Wallo, our English language editor, resigned from this position due to family and professional obligations, and we welcomed back Tamara Stadnychenko. As of January 2016, our longtime editor Lida Slysh resigned due to family health issues; we would like to thank her for her dedication and successes in making Our Life a publication of the highest quality. At her esteemed recommendation, we welcome Lesya Topolya to the Our Life family; as of January 1 st , Lesya has taken on the position of Ukrainian language editor. We look forward to seeing her personal touch reflected in upcoming issues of the publication. The covers of Our Life have been intriguing and innovative, showing the broad spectrum and variety of our diaspora art. We thank Ulana Zinych and, most recently, Sofia Hewryk, UNWLA VP of Cultural Affairs, for their creative outreach. VISITING REGIONAL COUNCILS/BRANCHES September 21, 2014: A wonderful and ceremonial branch christening for UNWLA Branch 134 was held at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Whippany, NJ. I had the distinct pleasure of not only attend- ing, but also taking an active role in this very happy and moving event. Branch 134 chose Atena Pashko, a longtime friend and partner of UNWLA, as its patroness. October 11–13, 2014: During Columbus Day Weekend, Vice President Ulana Zinych and I visit- ed the Ohio Regional Council . President Daria Fedoriw and her Vice President, Natalia Simms, orga- nized a lovely group dinner of the branch officers from Branches 8, 12, and 130 on Saturday evening and arranged for an RC meeting on Sunday. This Regional Council boasts the pride of all UNWLA members, the statue of Lesya Ukrainka erected and since maintained by Branch 8. It is also proud to in- clude Branch 12, the backbone of the RC and UNWLA events in the Parma/Cleveland area . Visit to Ohio Regional Council
