ХХХI Конвенція СУА 229 We took part in our local Easter Bazaar, Soyuzivka Festival, and Christmas Fairs (non- Ukrainian), selling our hand-made Ukrainian items. For Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, we made flower boutonnieres. I also contacted the NY State Museum to suggest having some of our Ukrainian culture show- cased in the Museum. This was their reply to my request: I certainly agree with you that there are gaps in the immigration history exhibits at the Museum. The New York Metropolis exhibit, in particular, is 30 years old and needs updating. We hope to embark upon a master plan in the next year or two that renews our long term exhibitions and that will be the impetus to work with people like you who could help us tell the story of the people of New York State. Collecting objects and family remembrances of Ukrainian New Yorkers will enable the Museum to tell the story of your rich and vibrant culture to a broader audience. I will keep all of the contact information in your letter for future reference, and hope that we will have the opportunity to work together in the future. Please feel free to keep me on your email list to let me know of happenings in your community. I am also copying Jennifer Lemak, Senior Historian in our History Collections department. Nancy Kelley Director, Exhibitions New York State Museum Cultural Education Center, Rm 3041 Empire State Plaza Albany, NY 12230 Ph 518-474-0080 We also commemorated the 90 th anniversary of the UNWLA with an after-church presentation to our local community of all the work our branch has accomplished over the past 24 years. Again, we are few, but we try to get the UNWLA out there into the Ukrainian and American community to showcase our Ukrainian heritage. This year we celebrated our 25 th anniversary. The branch decided to have a more intimate, mean- ingful celebration for members to remember, reflect, honor past and present members, welcome new members, and rededicate themselves to the ongoing work of the UNWLA. The event began with a celebration of Mass with the community at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catho- lic Church, where Very Reverend Dr. Ivan Kaszczak commended and thanked the branch for its work in the community and then blessed special pins for this momentous occasion that were given to each branch member. The pins included the diamond-shaped UNWLA member pin, but with the addition of a silver ribbon banner, made especially for the anniversary. The ribbon banner was made to fit around and be worn with the pin and commemorated the branch’s years of service. After posing for a formal branch photo in their vyshyvanky, members enjoyed a lovely formal luncheon at the Soyuzivka Heritage Center with toasts, recollections, and thanks for all their past work on behalf of the branch and the UNWLA, and a recommitment by all to continue honoring the purpose, goals, and endeavors of the UNWLA for many more anniversaries to come.
