ХХХI Конвенція СУА 219 UNWLA BRANCH 85, PATRONESS KATRUSIA ZARYCKY, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS CHICAGO REGIONAL COUNCIL April 15, 2016, at our A Curator’s Talk (l-r): A. Sumyk-Whelan (Co-President), C. Hrynewycz (Co-President) As we approach the XXXI UNWLA Convention, Branch 85 of the Chicago Regional Council has 30 members with unique and diverse backgrounds, professions, interests, and life experiences. Since our inception in 1989, our shared aims and goals continue to guide our branch endeavors. Our members con- tribute their ideas, time, and efforts to achieving our ideals. Under the devoted and energetic leadership of our current Co-Presidents Katia Hrynewycz and Aka Sumyk-Whelan, we continue to work together to support the goals of the UNWLA. In addition to holding quarterly meetings, Branch 85 members partici- pated in various cultural, philanthropic, and social events. On April 15, 2016, we hosted a presentation of A Curator’s Talk with Adrienne Kochman, Ph.D , at the Ukrainian Institue of Modern Art in Chicago. This was an overview of the exhibit held at The Ukrainian Museum in New York from October 18, 2015, to February 14, 2016, in conjunction with the 90th anniversary of the founding of the UNWLA. Co-President Katia Hrynewycz welcomed guests at this well-attended event with a brief history of The Ukrainian Museum, then introduced the exhibition’s cura- tor, Adrienne Kochman, and special guest, Chicago artist Alexandra Diachenko Kochman, whose work was featured in the exhibition. As Adrienne Kochman began her presentation, it became a virtual gallery walk for the audience. The slides showed the scale and progression of the art pieces within the Museum’s space. Her intimate talk detailed each work individually, with information and anecdotes about the artists and their works. Following a Q & A, Alexandra Diachenko Kochman spoke about her inspiration as an artist, which lent a very personal connection to the exhibition and the evening. This was a truly memorable event for our Ukrainian community. Since 1991, our branch has been responsible for organizing and running Sadok Vyshnevyj , which is held four days per week for pre-schoolers ages 3 to 5. We thank our most recent Education Chairs, Aka Sumyk-Whelan and Ulana LaMothe, for their continued work and dedication.
