ХХХI Конвенція СУА 173 ORYSIA ZINYCZ CO-LIAISON FOR BRANCHES-AT-LARGE EAST It has been an honor and a pleasure to work with Branches-at-Large for the past nine years. BAL were scattered over 10 states; they did not have a Re- gion. The BAL members and I developed a very special relationship. We be- came a group, communicated, exchanged ideas, discussed our programs, and shared our concerns and, especially, our successes via email and the US Postal Service. Additional branches joined BAL; we created an alliance, held suc- cessful meetings and elections, and discussed responsibilities at both the 2011 and 2014 Conventions. In 2014, we established a closer coalition by initiating quarterly teleconferences that included a member of the UNWLA Executive Board. The teleconferences resulted in improved communication among BAL members as well as quicker and better communication with the National Board. After becoming the acting Liaison in 2008, I was re-elected in 2014, and a Co-Liaison was added. In January 2016, the BAL were separated into two groups, East and West, each headed by a Co-Liaison. I represent the eight branches of BAL East – see chart below at right. 2011 All Branches at Large 2016 BAL East Liaison Branch Location Members Branch Location Members 3 Phoenix AZ 17 17 Miami FL 28 14 Atlanta GA 16 27 Pittsburgh PA 18 17 Miami FL 28 46 Rochester NY 15 27 Pittsburgh PA 18 49 Buffalo NY 11 38 Denver CO 18 56 North Port FL 102 46 Rochester NY 15 78 Washington DC 38 49 Buffalo NY 11 97 Buffalo NY 29 56 North Port FL 92 120 Rochester NY 24 68 Syracuse NY 8 265 78 Washington DC 38 97 Buffalo NY 29 107 San Jose CA 18 111 Los Angeles CA 18 118 Houston TX 29 120 Rochester NY 24 124 St.Petersburg FL 19 126 Boston MA 11 136 Naples FL 16 425 In 2014, a new BAL branch, 136, was organized in Naples, Florida, and in March 2015, Olya Czerkas, the newly elected Co-Liaison, and I met with branch president Natalka Santarsiero and members and po- tential members. We described the UNWLA’s history, organization, and membership, the advantage of belonging to the UNWLA, and especially the power of being part of an internationally known organiza- tion; 14 new members joined.
