ХХХI Конвенція СУА 167 NEW YORK CENTRAL REGIONAL COUNCIL The New York Central Region consists of four branches. Branch 34 is located in Cohoes; their President is Oksana Ciupka. They are a 90-minute ride up the New York State Thruway from where I live in Ker- honkson. Branch 62 is in Glen Spey; their president is Nadia Rajsz, and they are about one hour in the other direction. Branch 95, which I belong to, is in Kerhonkson-Poughkeepsie; our President is Sonia Semanyshyn. We are centrally located in regards to the other branches. Branch 99 is in Watervliet; their President is Luba Kushnir- Dryansky, and they are a 90-minute ride up the Thruway from me (and about 15 minutes from the branch in Cohoes). As you can see, we are a distance from each other, which makes it hard to get us together. Each branch is very active in its area. I have attended all the National Board meetings in New York City, and this past year the New York Central Region had asked to host the meeting. I then obtained a partial sponsorship from Self Reli- ance (NY) Federal Credit Union for the meeting to be held at Soyuzivka the weekend of October 7-9, 2016. It was very productive to hold the meeting there, as we were able to meet well into the evening and to accomplish so much. In 2015 I was able to attend the dedication of the Holodomor Memorial in Washington, DC, where I met some of the members from the Albany and Glen Spey branches. I have also attended the Ho- lodomor Commemorative Service in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral every year. Branch 34 hosts coffee hour after church at Sts. Peter & Paul Church hall. They visit the sick and elderly, they help tend the graves of deceased members, and they host Yalynka and Sviachene lunches. Branch 62 hosts coffee and Easter and Christmas Bazaars, and they also celebrate other Ukrainian holidays. This year they celebrated the 25 th Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence with a program and dance. Branch 95 takes part in the Easter and Christmas Bazaars at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church. They do Craft Fairs and take part in a Diversity Day in Kingston and in Beacon Day in Beacon, where they are able to display our rich heritage with beautiful embroidery and our Ukrainian flag. They also show attendees, young and old alike, how to write their names in Ukrainian. They hosted a breakfast after church to celebrate the 90 th Anniversary of the UNWLA. They had displays of what they had accomplished through the years, and I was able to give a brief history of the good works of the UN- WLA and its dedicated members. Branch 99 is the only branch to run a Svitlychka nursery school, to promote Ukrainian culture and language. They also take part in Easter and Christmas Bazaars at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Watervliet, and are active participants in the Festival of Nations in Albany, where they sell Ukrainian books, embroidery, and – of course – food. They also go caroling. I am very proud to be a member of the UNWLA and all that it stands for. Maria Z. Cade President of New York Central Region The New York Central Region wishes the UNWLA a most successful convention! To the newly elected officials: May God be with you as you continue all the outstanding good works of our wonderful organization. MNOHAYA LITA!
