Слава Україні! __________________________________ OKSANA ANTONYUK TREASURER I had the great honor of joining the Executive Board of the UNWLA in May 2014, and since then, I have been deeply impressed by all the hard work, devotion, professionalism, and enthusiasm of the Board members. These exceptional women have been a great inspiration to me. As the Treasurer of the UNWLA from May 2014 to the present, I took over a very organized and professionally run area of work, guided and supported by President Marianna Zajac and Financial Secre- tary Roma Shuhan, with their extensive knowledge and experience in accounting, and by former UNWLA Treasurer Nadia Cwiach. The responsibilities of the office have increased since all payment processing and bank account verification, formerly handled by Financial Secretary Roma Shuhan, became Treasurer responsibilities. Donations and payment activities (along with the workload for all Executive Board members) increased significantly starting in 2014 as a result of the extremely difficult situation caused by Russian aggression in our beloved Ukraine and the desperate needs of so many Ukrainians during these terrible times. As UNWLA Treasurer, I continued to monitor multiple accounts, including PayPal, and to prepare financial statements for four areas of UNWLA work using accounting software: Home Office, Our Life magazine, Social Welfare, and Scholarship Programs. In addition, all these areas/divisions were audited annually, and federal and NYS/NYC tax returns were filed by CPAs from Nisivoccia LLP. During my tenure as Treasurer, I worked with auditors (with the much-appreciated support of President Marianna Zajac) during the audits for the 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 financial years. The audi- tors reviewed up to 50 transactions (and requested related backup documents) in all business areas and divisions of the UNWLA. After the Nisivoccia audit, the UNWLA financials were also audited annually by the internal Auditing Committee: Oxana Farion (Chair), Maria Tomorug, Roma Shuhan, Renata Zajac, Jaroslava Mulyk. I prepared documents and answered questions during these audits as well. Also, I pre- pared and presented UNWLA financial statements at the Annual National Board meetings and for this XXXI UNWLA Convention. I continued to perform payroll functions in-house, including quarterly reporting of payroll with- holdings to the IRS and the NYS and NYC Departments of Finance, as well as annual reporting of em- ployee and contractor earnings and issuing W-2s and 1099-misc forms. I set up online reporting and pay- roll tax payments via EFT to streamline the process. I also set up online banking while still continuing to issue most payments via manual checks (for security purposes). I also reconciled vendor accounts. As we know, the UNWLA is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization (as defined by the IRS) and as such may perform only charitable, educational, and cultural activities in order to maintain its tax- exempt status. For the same reason, the UNWLA may not support any political or religious groups/organizations. In addition to the Treasurer's duties, I participated in monthly Executive Board meetings and in multiple activities – fundraisers; rallies; cultural events at the United Nations, The Ukrainian Museum, and the Ukrainian Institute of America; the unveiling of the Holodomor Memorial in Washington, DC; and UNWLA informational tables at Soyuzivka, in Manhattan, and in Staten Island, NY, during Ukraini- an festivals. I greatly appreciate the opportunity and value the experience of working as UNWLA Treasurer. I sincerely thank President Marianna Zajac for her continued support and guidance.
