ХХХI Конвенція СУА 111 ZORIANA HAFTKOWYCZ COMMUNICATIONS/SOCIAL MEDIA SECRETARY The UNWLA Communications/Social Media Secretary (C/SMS) role was voted on and approved at the 2014 UNWLA Convention. The C/SMS is a functional and advisory position responsible for developing the UNWLA’s communication infor- mation technology (IT) vision and strategy. This includes recommending, imple- menting, and maintaining IT communications and social media applications and standards; contributing articles to print and electronic media; maintaining and en- hancing digitized archives; and identifying and leading strategic/operational IT projects. During my three-year tenure as the inaugural C/SMS, the following major projects were spon- sored and completed: 1. Facilitated the first conversion project by digitizing a UNWLA photo history (1925 – 1982) with ac- companying descriptive index in Ukrainian, subsequently translated into English. Compact disks (CDs) were then created to facilitate dissemination for presentation as well as to meet member re- quests. A special acknowledgment to Marta Danyluk, UNWLA Honorary Member, who researched and collected the slides, arranged them in chronological order, and provided a detailed narrative about each slide. 2. Coordinated the hiring and support of a consultant to extract and scan all Our Life magazine covers (1951-2014), which were indexed with artist information. A slide-show/movie DVD of the Our Life magazine cover images was then set to the songs of Kvitka Cisyk. 3. Created two videos from the UNWLA archive and set them to music in recognition of the Holodomor Commemoration in Washington, DC. 4. Sponsored and staffed a committee to identify, prioritize, and address the technical issues facing the UNWLA. Initiated the process to update the UNWLA office information technology environment, to include the replacement of a workstation in the UNWLA office. Recommended an increase in Inter- net access speed from 3 Mbps to 10 Mbps, which provided faster Internet connectivity by transition- ing to a different provider. 5. Upgraded the UNWLA workstation used by Lida Slysh, editor-in-chief of Our Life magazine, and provided follow-on IT support. 6. Implemented PayPal capabilities on the UNWLA website, with oversight during initial implementa- tion. 7. Produced over 1,000 UNWLA business cards for the members of the UNWLA Executive Committee, Standing Committee Chairs, and editors of Our Life magazine. Worked with Marianna Zajac, UN- WLA President, on designing and printing a business card for Dr. Maria Furtak in Ukraine. 8. Maintained and updated the current UNWLA website and Facebook account. This included photo editing of pictures as well as adding captions, coordinating with our consultant to ensure that Our Life magazine issues are posted to the UNWLA website as per our established schedule (i.e., six months from hard-copy publication), and adding the 2014 UNWLA Convention Book to the UNWLA web- site. 9. Represented the UNWLA at the dedication of the Ukrainian American Veterans National Monument. 10. Supported the 2014 UNWLA Convention Book Committee as the Secretary. 11. Co-authored an article about the 2014 UNWLA Convention published in The Ukrainian Weekly with Ulana Zinych, 1 st Vice President. 12. Worked on the design of the Nadiya Savchenko tri-fold brochure, including providing detailed writ- ten instructions to all branches on production. 13. Worked with Ulana Zinych to create a hramota (certificate of recognition) for the 25th anniversary of Branch 56 in Florida.
