102 ХХХІ Конвенція СУА 50 th wedding anniversary they founded the Kovaliv Fund as an expression of their love for their father- land. Throughout its history, the UNWLA has paid special attention to education – from kindergartens to scholarships for university students to awards for scholarly achievements. It is probably for this reason that Mr. and Mrs. Kovaliv entrusted their Fund to our organization. In the 1960s–1980s, most of the awards went to members of the diaspora, but Ukrainian independence opened up new opportunities for Ukrainians. In past years, we received between three and five applications for Kovaliv Awards. But in 2015 we received 78 applications in the literature competition. The results of the 50th competition will be announced at the XXXI convention of the UNWLA. Shakespearean Competition For the sixth year, the UNWLA is financing an All-Ukrainian competitіon of Shakespearean stud- ies at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in honor of Dr. Vitalii Keis. The initiator and director of the competition is Prof. Natalia M. Torkun of Zaporizhzhia. In the past, during the years of Soviet control, a number of talented Ukrainian translators concentrated their efforts on translating western literature into Ukrainian. In the new environment, the goal of the Shakespearean competition is to develop a new gener- ation of Ukrainian translators. The competition also opens up the possibility for Ukrainians to join the world’s society of Shakespeareans. Each year, the UNWLA awards six grants totaling $2,000; 36 awards have thus far been distrib- uted. In her letter to the UNWLA, Prof. Torkun described the aim of the competition: to introduce young students to the cultural values of the western world. All competition works are in the Ukrainian language, and the results are shared on the website: www.shakespeare.zp.ua Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) In 2012, thanks to the financial support of the UNWLA, a Lectureship in Women’s Studies was established at UCU. It is led and coordinated by Dr. Halyna Tesluk. Dr. Marta Bohachevska-Chomiak supervises the entire program, which is popular both among students and within the community. The pos- sibility of establishing a Center of Women’s Studies at UCU is also being explored; such a center would broaden the availability of women’s studies in Ukraine. In 2016, under the direction of Dr. Halyna Tesluk, a new project was developed in memory of Lesia Kuzyk: An Oral History of Ukrainian Women in the Armed Conflict in Eastern Ukraine (2014-2016). Additionally ... Since March 2015, I have been choosing the artwork for the cover of our magazine Our Life . As a member of the Board of The Ukrainian Museum, I am the head of its Program Committee. __________________________________
